Today's Featured Biography
Joy Crane
Wow where do I start. Most of you know Mom,Hank (my step Dad) moved to Reno in 1981. They are both gone now and laid to rest in Reno I did not know a lot of people in town but since Gary (Raffanelli) and Sandy (Selby) had a lot of work in the casino lounges, I spent a lot of time with Karen Raffanelli and Dahlia Diaz.
Karen (Gary's sister) and Dee (Dahlia, Karen"s best friend) worked with the band. So when they were in town Karen and Dee showed me around and I got to know a lot of people through them. From 1981 to 1987-88 we had a blast together.
We went to shows met countless entertainers, local and not so local and some are still friend after all these years.
I worked at J.A,s Nugget in Sparks and got to know a lot of people just working with the public. I worked various jobs from sales to finance I lived and worked in Reno until 1995 when my job with the State of Nevada took me directly East to Ely and then I was with NDOT and worked road construction until I got injured in 1999 and was retired out in 2000.
At that time I finished an Associates Degree I had stated in Reno through Truckee Meadows Community College and then only needed a few more credits to get another through Great Basin College out of Elko in 2002. All in all for the first one it took me 20 years to get but I felt I really earned my second AA and enjoyed school and the interaction. I was also involved in student government just as I had been in high school.
My personal relation ships have never really panned out for me. Despite my social inter-action with people I'm pretty shy when it comes to the dating seen and to this day don't understand the concept of flirting or dating more then one person at a time. I've always been more comfortable with people who have known me for a while anyway.
I moved to the Mid-West in 2005 but things never really seemed to come together there for me.I would come out West to visit and missed everyone. Christmas 2009 my older sister Dot became ill and was hospitalized. We lost her in February of 2010 and then our oldest sister Maggie on Dot's birthday that same year. But what really hurt was when the family went to AZ for Maggie, we found our Brother in Law dead from a heart attach. Needles to say 2010 was a hard year on everyone.
Now in 2011, it has not been much easier. In February my brother was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer. In April I came out to Oregon to help take care of Jim since the illness had left him unable to to a lot of things for himself. Alice and I decided that a the best place for Jim was in his own home.
Just after being here for two months the long-term relationship I had been to my surprise ended. In August I was able to take a brake, went back to Missouri, put my things in storage and returned in time to help Jim through his second round of chemo. Now he is on the final drug that the VA can offer him. As I write this we still do not know if it is working.
So after not being with family much over the past 5 years I have now returned and back out West once more. Unsure of what the future will hold, I'm blessing everyday that I have with my family. Once their gone there are no do overs.
As for me, I still love music and miss being in a Community Choir like I was in the Mid-West and Ely. Music will always be very important to me. I also enjoy writing though it takes me so much longer now to do it since my injury. I'm also sure age has a lot to do with it as well.
Though I never had children my pets were my 4 footed ones. I miss having my cat Dottie with me. She is still in the Mid-West but I hope to get her out here this summer as well as my belonging. I can say I am a Aunt, a Great Aunt, a God Mother and a soon to be Great Great Aunt which I am so happy about. I enjoy photography, this is such a beautiful area. You feel like your in the mountains yet the ocean is just around the corner, literately! So my life is at a cross roads and yet there are new beginnings all the time.
I may stay here in Oregon or I may end up in Nevada or California. I still have friends in Nevada and family in the Bay Area and Sacramento. Time will tell, but for now, my time is here with Jim. I love my brother and I'm so glad that we are together. He's the best! And So are you! Why, because you care enough to have read this far. The years may have passed but we can look back and be glad that we were and are apart of each others lives. Even if it is just for this moment it time. I think we are better because of each other. At least I know I am! :)

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
