Terry D. Wood
Currently semi-retired and the Founder and Managing Partner of Wood Media Consultants. I was, until 2007, the Senior Vice President/Market Manager of CBS Radio/Memphis, Tennessee and their 3 radio stations, WMC-FM, WMC-AM & WMFS-FM and have spent the past 40 years in all aspects of the management and operations of medium and major market radio stations. My background includes on-air, programming, sales and multi station general management.
From 2000 to 2001 I was Regional Market Manager for the Cromwell Group Inc. of Illinois with marketing and management responsibilities for their Mattoon, Charleston, Effingham and Decatur, Illinois properties. From 1996 to 2000 Vice President of Clear Channel Radio, Inc. and Market Manager of their 4 radio stations in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, WKKV-FM, WMIL-FM, WOKY-AM, and WRIT-FM. From 1993 to 1996 President and CEO of United Radio Group, Inc. a company formed to acquire small market radio stations in 5 markets primarily in the southwest and west. From 1980 to 1993 Vice President of Viacom International Inc.’s radio division and General Manager of three of their owned radio properties, WRVR-AM/FM in Memphis, Tennessee and WLTI-FM in Detroit, Michigan. From 1965 to 1980 VP/Operations and/or Program Director of WAKR AM/FM, Akron, Ohio; WONE/WTUE, Dayton, Ohio; WWSW-AM, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and WSAI-AM, Cincinnati, Ohio. I also did on-air and free lance voice over work during his time spent in programming. My radio career began while in high school at WHOO AM in Orlando and I continued on-air in Orlando at WLOF-AM as well as a stint at WDBO - Channel 6 TV and then back to radio and on to Tampa, Chicago, Akron, Dayton and Pittsburgh and then transitioned to management in Cincinnati, Ohio.
During my time in Detroit I was on the board of the Detroit Radio Advertising Group (DRAG), a board member of the William Beaumont Hospital Foundation and on the board and executive committee of the Detroit Science Center. While in Memphis I was co-chairman of the 1984 Tennessee Broadcasters Association annual convention, served on the board and executive committee of the Western Tennessee March of Dimes and was a board member and President of the Memphis Area Broadcasters Association. During my Milwaukee tenure I served on the board of directors of the Milwaukee Urban League, the Milwaukee Urban League’s Charter School Board, the board of directors of the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association and am listed in Who’s Who of Broadcasting. In 2004 The Memphis Advertising Federation awarded me the Pyramid award as General Manager of the Year.
I spent 16 years in the Army, Army Reserve and National Guard and left the service in 1982 at the rank of Captain.
My wife is the former Shantay Parrish of Dayton, Ohio. She is an accomplished medical assistant and currently is employed by the Stone Institute in Memphis, Tennessee. We have two dogs, Colleen & Madison, a cat, Frank and fish (no names). Shantay has a daughter, Lyndsey and I have 5 children, twin daughters Stephanie & Claudine, daughers Trisha and Heather and son David.
Shantay and I reside in Memphis, Tennessee. My avid passion is golf (a 12 handicap) and hers is photography with a home business that includes the restoration of damaged and very old photographs.
