Today's Featured Biography
Adam Hils
For many years after my undergrad degree, I worked in market research in Atlanta as an Account Manager and a quality control expert. In 1998, I went to Georgia Tech to get a Masters of Science in Management, a degree which Tech now calls an MBA.
Upon graduation in 2000, I took a job in San Jose, CA with Gartner, a technology research and consulting firm, as a security strategy consultant. In this role, I helped security vendors sell effectively to end users, and helped end users craft optimal information security defenses.
Soon after I took this job, my wife decided California was not for us. Gartner acquired a small consulting firm in Boulder, CO, and I offered to move there and help with integration in late 2000.
Colorado was great for my family; we had our first child, Walker, in 2001, and felt we were home. In 2005 I decided to move to a security vendor, Top Layer Networks, in Westborough, MA, because I wanted a new challenge. It was a marketing/corporate strategy role, which I enjoyed until 2006, when we decided to return to Atlanta.
My wife was pregnant with our second child, Sadie, and we wanted to be close to family. So I took a job at Internet Security Systems here in town, running product marketing and strategy for their host security products.
In mid-2007, I rejoined Gartner as an analyst for network security. I write to help end users get the best safeguards, to evaluate future trends, and to help vendors build the right products. In addition I get to do lots of public speaking, I get to visit clients to help with strategy, and I sometimes speak to the press.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
