David Byers
Work Bio
David is an Associate Director for Performance Development in the Office of Business and Financial Services (OBFS) at the University of Illinois (U of I) where he has worked for the last 10 years and ½ years. He has led 26 organization development/change management initiatives, delivered over 50 leadership and 200 staff development sessions in that time. He is certified in 5 FranklinCovey Courses and has been a professional trainer and instructional designer since 1993. David is also a Results Certified Coach from the International Coaching Federation.
David is a Volunteer Coach, and i-Program Facilitator for the U of I Leadership Center where he has taught various programs and coached many students since 2006. He is the University Administration 2008 Distinguished Employee and Leadership Team Award (DELTA) Winner.
He has also received training directly from Geoffrey Bellman (Extraordinary Groups, How to Lead When You are Not in Charge); Peter Block (Stewardship: Choosing Service Over Self-Interest, The Empowered Manager, The Answer to How Is Yes: Acting on What Matters, Community: The Structure of Belonging); Marshall Goldsmith (What Got You Here Won’t Get You There); and David Rock (Quiet Leadership, Your Brain at Work).
David has a M.S. from Illinois State University in Training and Development and a B.S. in Organization Analysis from the University of Illinois. He has delivered over 50 presentations at National, Regional, and State Training Conferences and published 21 articles on various topics including educational technology, training, literacy training, and continuing education.
Personal
Likes sailing, has a 25' 1974 Ericson that has been restored and kept on Lake Carlyle where he and his wife Ann with family and friends go sailing. Dave still plays music, guitar in an old-time string band, playing music like in the movie "O Brother Where Art Though". Dave also keeps up in drumming, performing in some live venues with friends and worked on a recent recording project for Dennis Longwill.
Besides being quite active with his two grandchildren, also enjoys reading, yardwork, and learning new information and things. Dave plans to continue working, health willing, till 2021.
