Today's Featured Biography
Anne Cookson Oxler
After graduation from Mount Carmel, I attended Kansas State University for one year. I married Susie Oxler's brother, Doug, that March and we lived in Manhattan until he finished his undergraduate degree. While we were there, Angie and Jude were born. I actually registered for some classes the spring of 1971, but the thought of writing papers with two babies made me wisely reconsider. After Doug graduated, we moved to Kansas City where he attended UMKC Dental school. We loved Kansas City (still do) and added another child, Jack, while there. We returned to Wichita in 1978 and began to build Doug's dental practice. Soon two more boys, George and Joe, were added to our family. While raising the kids I was active in Camp Fire Girls, President of Saint Francis Ladies Auxiliary, Founder and chairman of the SFA Halloween Fun Night for eight years, coached soccer, played tennis and took aerobic dance (wow does anybody remember that exercise craze?? - it seems like an awful long time ago!!). I also worked at the dental office part time.
We never experienced an empty nest. Before our "baby Joe" left home we had already started to add grandkids to our family. Somehow we have been incredibly blessed to have all five of our children settle in Wichita - we are now up to 9 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, and 3 step granddaughters. (if you google "baby Mangino" you can find our 15 seconds of internet fame!). The oldest is a freshman at Bishop Carroll and the youngest in 18 mths.
My days now are centered around helping with the daily lives of the grandkids, volunteering at church, school, and A Better Choice (Christian Pregnancy crisis Center). I also "enjoy" trying to keep fit - I lift weights, do 2 to 3 cycle classes a week, and walk whenever the weather permits (my comfort zone outside is 65 to 75!!!). I love to garden and read.
Doug is retired so we also enjoy traveling. He stays busy with golf and tennis, Coaches football at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seaton, and coaches several of the grandkids in tennis.
Daughter Angie is comptroller for the National Oil and Gas Reporter, Leader of two Little Flower groups at Saint Francis Assisi, is on the SFA parish council, and is a WONDERFUL mother to her six beautiful children.
Jude and George are dentists and took over Doug's practice. Jack is a tennis professional. Joe is sales manager at the Rock Road Genesis. All the boys are very sports oriented. You name it - they play it, coach it, or bet on it.
Hope I haven't bored you to tears!!!!
