Today's Featured Biography

Brenda Walker Stone

Most of my life I have devoted to my children and my business. Things have changed now. I devote my life to Jesus Christ. I am very thankful God found me worthy of spending time to teach me about salvation, even though it was through the loss of my first grandson. You know, we don't look for God when life is good unfortunately. We look for God when we have no one else to turn to. It is so sad it has to be that way, because I have found a peace and purpose in my life that I have not ever experienced before when I ask Jesus Christ into my life. He is the missing piece that I have been looking for. But, I am so thankful, he found me worthy of salvation that he spent time to get my attention through the death of my very first grandson. But, I know Tavin is in Heaven with Jesus now. He is not sufferning and he is not sad. He lived nine days. He taught me more in his nine days on earth than I have ever learned in the 45 years I have lived on this earth. As I look back from day one to day nine. God and Tavin was teaching me the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit exactly in the order they appear in the Bible. Day 1 Love- my first grandbaby was born even though he was only 1.58 pounds; Day 2 -Joy- my baby grandson was 3 months premature, but they said they had many babies born at that age that survived, and he squeezed my finger with his tiny little hand. Day 3- Peace- My grandbaby wasn't experiencing any major problelms... I prayed to God to please keep him safe. Day 4- patience-We found out my sweet little grandbaby has level 1 brain hemoraging and he has kidney problems and his bilirubin level is high - I pray to God to spare my grandbaby's life and take mine instead. I'm so worried about my grandbaby. Day 5- kindness- I'm alone in the neonatal unit, praying with my grandbaby asking God to please spare my grandbaby and heal him, take my life if you must. It is as if he knows I have not been saved and I really have not had the priviledge to have Jesus in my life. You see, I never really learned about God when I was a child. Back to day 5 kindness, when I felt so alone I had the kindest janitor at Deaconess Women's Center named Kerry pat me on the shoulder and look at me and tell me God will take care of my little grandson when I had tears streaming down my cheeks in the middle of the night. Day 6- goodness- As I lay in the waiting room all night vigently by my grandson I had the nicest family in the same waiting room as they wait for their first grandson to be born. It turned out that their son was also a minister and as total strangers prayed with me in the waiting room for my grandson, Tavin. I became aware of the goodness that is really in the hearts of people who truly know God. Day 7- Sunday, the seventh fruit listed in the Bible is faithfulness. I learned true faithfulness on the Sunday, Tavin's one week birthday that we almost lost him. The doctors let family in to see him that had never saw him before, because they thought that may be their only chance to ever see him. His mommy changed his diaper for the very first time that night at midnight because they thought that may be the only time she would get the chance to change his tiny little diaper... and they were right. Monday- day 8- the Bible has gentleness as the 8th fruit we must all learn. Gentleness... when you learn your son and grandson has level 4 brain hemmoraging, which is the worst it can get and you know that at the very least he will be severely handicapped if he lives. This tiny baby who only weighs 1 pound now requires the utmost of gentleness. He doesn't move, he doesn't squeeze my finger any more. What can I do for him? What can the doctors do for him? What can his Mommy and Daddy do for him? The answer is nothing! Only God help him now. Day 9- self control- Self control is only when I've been up for 48 hours, the same janitor that gave me kind words on day 5, talked with someone and they gave me a room to sleep in that night. It was the most peaceful sleep I have ever had. The next day as I stated earlier Day 9- self control is the ninth fruit listed in the Bible that we must learn. As I sat beside my grandbaby, Tavin's isolette in ICU I leaned down to the small opening in the side where the tubes ran in to his tiny little body from all the machines and monitors. I said a little prayer, that I had remembered as a child. It went like this " Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep, if I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take. Amen Grandma and Tavin. A few minutes later I began to say a prayer to God for myself. I prayed to God that He do what was best for Tavin. I told him that whatever his decision was that I could accept it. Before I always prayed to heal Tavin, to take my life and spare Tavin's. I prayed what I wanted, but now I put it in God's hand's and I told him whatever he decided was best for Tavin, I could accept it. And you know what... what was best for Tavin was that he leave this world of pain and suffering and go to Heaven to be with Jesus. And that is exactly what happened at that point. The numbers on his monitor dropped so low. The neonatolist came in and asked me to leave his side ... as they tried to revive him. But I knew... he was going home to be with Jesus. It is almost as if one of his purposes in his brief, precious little life was to lead me to Jesus and when he knew I prayed through my faith in God, he went home. Now..I ask you.. When you die, do you know you will go to Heaven? If you are unsure I pray you will not have to learn like I did, althouth I am glad my grandbaby is in Heaven now and I will see him one day. If you are not sure if you are going to Heaven, let me tell you what you need to do if you want to make sure you go to Heaven.
A- Admit you have sinned. We are all sinners. Ask God to forgive you of your sins.
B- Believe in Jesus Christ and that he gave his life on the cross for your sins and everyones sins, so we may all go to Heaven.
C- Commit your life to Jesus Christ. Say a prayer and ask Jesus Christ into your life-omething like this...
Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and I need Your forgiveness. I belive You died in my place to pay the penalty for my sin and that you rose from the dead. I now admit my sin and turn to You, trusting in You alone as my Savior, and receiving Your gift of forgiveness and eternal life. In the precious, Holy name of Jesus Christ, Amen
