Today's Featured Biography
Jocelyn Croft Croft
Covering 50 years since graduation spans so much change and wonderful experiences in my life, so here is a synopsis.
I married shortly after high school, leaving the cape and moving to western Massachusetts. In 1975 my husband and I were blessed with our son Joshua. The marriage ended 14 years ...such is life.
My son spent 22 years as a Marine, serving around the world and in combat, thankfully, coming home healthy. He now is a TSA agent in North Carolina. I have one grandson, Dakota, who drives truck by day, and is a club jazz and blues saxophone player at night. I love that my son and grandson are kind, productive and empathetic members of society. I couldn't be prouder.
Over the years I earned college degrees in Business Administration, Computer Programming and Occupational/Vocational Education.
I worked 15+ years as a computer programmer focusing on state and federal affordable housing and environmental protection programs, bringing automation, data management and analysis capabilities to previously manual processes that existed in the 1980's and 90's.
On a whim I applied to be a teacher for computer programming, web development, business and computer repair at a technical high school - I got the job and began the biggest career change of my life! Initially I continued my programming job and coded for Y2K glitches at night, and teaching by day. I was happy when that blurry-eyed workload was over! I discovered a passion teaching and working with teens. Along that 20 year career, I left the classroom becoming the Technology Coordinator for the district, and when retired, I was the Vocational Director of the school.
Not to ignore another love of mine, is that of my dogs over the years. I have worked as a volunteer trainer for the National Hearing Dog Association, community trainer for the town of Athol, and a volunteer obedience assistant for the Pioneer Valley Kennel Club dog programs. I have owned a cocker spaniel, corgis and Swedish Vallhunds and competed in obedience and conformation, and tricks (skateboarding, sledding and other silly things). My last dog, BeeBee, passed at age 18 here in Falmouth. She and I traveled back and forth from Falmouth and Martha's Vineyard during her final year visiting mom at her cottage on the island.
As soon as I retired in July 2019, I moved back to Falmouth to be with my family. I am loving every minute of being home. I have been taking art classes at the Falmouth Art Center, and helping out with my mom who raised me and my 7 siblings in East Falmouth. What a wonderful childhood, and now, what a wonderful retired life!
