Charlie Jenks

Life after the Class of 1963

I attended Chauncey Hall School in Boston until joining the United States Air Force (USAF) in February of 1965. My life after Norton high School could be separated into three parts: My enlisted years; my service years as an officer and my life after the USAF.

My enlisted assignments revolved around repairing ground radar systems in Mississippi, South Carolina and Labrador. Returning to the United States in 1970, I began college courses at the University of Southern Mississippi. One of the USAF education and commissioning programs selected him and he graduated from Oklahoma State University with a BS in Business Administration. After an assignment in Oklahoma City as an officer, he was selected for a graduate program and Graduated with a MS in Logistics Management in 1976.

Officer assignments included the Washington DC area; Hawaii; and an exchange office assignment with the Canadian Forces in the National Defense Headquarters in Ottawa, Canada. While in the Washington DC area, Charlie met Sue in Annapolis, Maryland in 1977. They were married in June of 1978. His family travelled to Hawaii and Canada before returning to the East Coast of Virginia. Returning to the states in 1984, he arranged his assignment to Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. His children were age 5 and 14 at the time and Charlie was determined to embark in a new career in Financial Management. He retired from the Air Force in 1985.

Charlie’s certified Financial Planning credentials were finally completed in 1989. However, he had achieved membership in The International Association of Financial Planning in 1985. He established a wonderful client base immediately and loved helping his clients achieve their financial goals. Five other Certified Financial Planners and Charlie began their “Financial Security Companies” in 1999. They provide wealth management and all facets of financial planning for clients from many localities and walks of life. The Lord has truly blessed his company and his clients.

Charlie’s daughter Jessica joined his Newport News branch office in 2004 after her first career in nuclear medicine. She became Charlie’s partner in his branch office in 2010. This allowed Charlie to take golf lessons and at least try to hit the ball. He found a second little home in Stuart Florida and sometimes is able to go warm up in the winter. Naturally, this is a golf community. He also likes fishing and boating.

Charlie has shared a love of boating with his family and community by becoming Commodore of the Seaford Yacht Club as well as the Virginia Yacht Club. They mainly cruise around the Chesapeake Bay and tributaries. The many vessels eventually led to a 53 Hatteras Motor Yacht was sold in order to buy a smaller yacht. The family recently found a 40ft Sea Ray.

He recently moved to a golf community in Cape Charles, VA.

Charlie doesn’t really plan on retiring anytime soon. However, his career has matured nicely to a point where he can retire if he chooses to.
