Dear Classreport users: We are one of the premiere social networking websites dating back to 2003. We are a small, family owned and operated business with less than 15 staff but freely host over a million class websites. Classreport holds a special place in the hearts of our users: Bravos. We are funded solely through your voluntary contributions. Despite our small size we have the same costs as any other site: servers, security, software, and staff. So now we ask for your support. If everyone reading this gave $15, our fundraiser would be over in one day. If Classreport is useful to you, take one minute to keep it online and ad-free for another year. Thank you. Click here to chip in now.

Today's Featured Biography

Marsha Sneed Folks

I've been fortunate to spend my entire life with a stringed instrument in my hands. I've played both professionally and semi-professionally. I founded an ensemble of youth string players who performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. during Reagan's 1981 Presidential Inauguration. In 1983, my youth musicians were guests of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In 1985 & 1987, my youth group toured and performed in New York City, Brooklyn, Harlem, etc.

Perhaps the highlight of my personal/professional life happened at Carnegie Hall in NYC when the great conductor, Zubin Mehtah, put his arm around my shoulders as we chatted after a magnificent performance of the Israel Philharmonic which he (Mehtah) had conducted. I've personally met & chatted with Mstislav Rostropovich & Itzakh Perlman.

Another highlight of my performing career was playing the violin solo with Nathaniel Rosen's performance of the Dvorak Cello Concerto. (Rosen was the Gold Medal winner of the Tschaikovsky Competition in Moscow, Russia).

My student ensemble performed in many states including Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, California, Oregon, Washington, New York (and some others I'm sure I've forgotten).

Personally, it is easier for me to name the great works of classical music which I have NOT played than it is to list the hundreds of performances I've performed in across the USA.
Aside from playing 1st Violin in the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, the hottest group I played with was Idaho Pro Arte.

To whomever said I'd be playing with the Lake Arthur Grand Old Opry, you missed it. But I did play fiddle onstage in a live performance show in Ohio (1971)....431 performances. (whew!)
