Today's Featured Biography
Sharon Apley Snell
Someone asks "tell me about yourself" and most people start out with the usual- I went to school for blah blah... But if you think about it, that does not tell anything about you other than you paid out big $ to get a piece of paper intended to help you be employed for more $. LOL ;)
I am a wife, mother, step-mother (or step-monster depending who you ask), and someone who is easily bored and thereby always doing 5 things at once. If you read my current employment list and wondered about it, that's the explanation... I am a Gemini and I bore easily. If I am not doing at least 3 different things I don't even know how to stay focused.
No matter what I have achieved professionaly, I will still always say My great achievement in life are my kids...And having a husband put up with me for over a decade. Two Type A personalities really should not be together and a Gemini and Cancer definitely not, but somehow it seems to work for us anyway.
Back to the kids... Allex was my red headed leprechaun. She loved life and saw everything in her own unique way. She was attending NCHS for her Junior and Senior years too! I miss her dearly. She was the youngest person ever diagnosed with Lung Cancer (And NO she was never a smoker or around anyone who was)- guess that's one way to be make history. She passed away in April 2006. Its still hard to go through pictures or tell stories about her without crying for an hour. I hear NCHS has a memorial about her on the wall in the library. Mrs Kraft was soooo sweet to do that for her! My family donated tons of books back to the library with a memorial card in the cover as way to make a legacy for her there.
Jordan Sierra is 22 now. She is just too tall, too thin, too pretty and way too smart for her own good. Not sure how that happened! She is finishing her Bachelors in nursing and her boyfriend of 2 years is on his way to becoming a doctor.
Ryan is my step-son and a pretty amazing kid. Thank God he is like his father and not his mother. He has finished his pilots license and currently owns a DJ business. I look forward to making him fly me places just for the day!
Then there is Braeden, the littlest one, Mr. Personality with the huge blue eyes. He will be the charmer and the trouble maker all rolled into one. He is also my hockey player. He plays for the EYH Kodiaks and just can't figure which he likes more- scoring or stopping the other players..luckily he gets to do both!
We have been billeting for the Everett Silvertips for the past 4 years now- we have had 15 players to date (not all at the same time).. 2 have signed with NHL teams and 3 with AHL. Maybe I should have Ryan flying me to see those games?
Braeden and Ryan share the same birthday (just 9 years apart) which also is the day before mine. Makes for FUN birthday parties. I love birthdays with the kids.
Guess I should also add that my husband might be part of the reason the kids are so cool. He went from a suit and tie in the corner office of downtown Spokane to being a Nationally recognized police officer in Everett. Quite the lifestyle change I must say. Worked wonders on the boyfriend choices of the girls too!
He made me learn to ski when I was 30 and I turned him into a hockey fan. Now we are into motorcycles. Because of him I do tons of volunteer work with local police departments. I am on the Snohomish Civil Service Commission and Public Safety Commission, the Snohomish County Healthy Communities Commission and was somehow roped into being appointed the City of Everett CERT Liaison (between EMS/Police/Public during Disasters). I love volunteering, but last year was over 600 hours when it was all finally counted. Want to know how to get something done that has an impossible deadline- ask a busy person!
My life has taken me from Spokane to Maryland, back to Spokane to Florida, back to Spokane to Kirkland, to Redmond, to Everett and now finally to Snohomish. Of course there were quite a few side trips along the way for work- Shanghai, Mexico, Dallas, Florida, Chicago, California, Grand Caymans, Jamaica, Nassau, Peru, Tokyo, and so many others. And yet, I still have not managed to make it to Hawaii even once!
My excuse for lots of the travel has been Consulting which is the best, most challenging, most nerve wracking, fun thing you will ever get paid to do. I have really enjoyed this aspect of my life both for the independence and the financial rewards. Not too shabby for a girl who once worked at Senior Froggy's.
Well, this is terribly long so I will just say... Its been fun and I look forward to seeing everyone this summer.
ps- for pix- www.Allexandra.com or my FaceBook page have tons!
