Today's Featured Biography
Daniel Ford
I was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1962 after a three-year tour of duty in Germany. I then worked awhile in El Dorado before going on to Southern State College where I met and married Jacque Nash of Smackover, my wife of 44 years. I graduated with a B.A. in English in 1967. Jacque and I went to Auburn on an NDEA fellowship, had Alicia there in 1968 and I earned the M.A. and Ph.D. in English. We moved back to SSC in 1971 where I became professor of English and the first dean of the School of Liberal and Performing Arts and where Ann was born in 1979.
I took an administrative position at the University of Arkansas at Moticello in 1991 and became the first arts and sciences dean at Palm Beach Atlantic University in Florida in 1994. In 1998, Jacque's father died and we had to get back to Arkansas to help the family. I took a position at University of Arkansas Community College in Hope and shortly became vice-president for academic affairs at SouthArk in El Dorado. From there, we moved to Gillham, Arkansas where Alicia and the two grandchildren live, Austin, 14 and Bethany 12. I write a weekly column for the De Queen newspaper and teach adjunctively at Cossotot Community College of the University of Arkansas in De Queen. I recently served a year as associate provost and interim dean back at Palm Beach Atlantic, as the institution was undergoing burgeoning growth and bid for reaccreditation.
Alicia, whose master's degree is in English as a second language, teaches first grade in De Queen and Ann, whose master's is in psychology of education, is a senior research analyst for KidsOhio, a non-profit advocacy group in Columbus. Alicia is married to a cattle farmer and Ann's husband is a police officer.
Jacque and I live in a rock cottage in the woods near Gillham, Arkansas. I have a quarter horse, a bunch of donkeys, some chickens and two highly intelligent hounds that help us inhabit our 25 acres.

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
