Widowed from Elizabeth a SSFHS grad of 1973. We were married for 27 years when she passed in 2003. I know some of you knew her. Here is a reprint of her obituary from the SF Chronicle, written by brother-in-law and then Chronicle colunmist Mark Simon.

BURGARD, Elizabeth Caranlik - 48, died peacefully on November 1, 2003, in San Diego surrounded by family after a courageous six-year battle with breast cancer. She is survived by her devoted husband of 27 years, Robert Burgard, Jr., and her daughters, Michelle, 18, and Lisa, 16. She is also survived by her sisters, Elaine Adams of Santa Cruz, Kathy Simon of Redwood City and Beverly Heppler of Concord; her brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her life-long friend, Amy Bachtold Miller of San Mateo. Liz graduated from South San Francisco High School and Skyline College in San Bruno. She was a dedicated employee of 30 years for Pioneer Motor Bearing Company, formerly headquartered in South San Francisco. Liz will be remembered her devotion to her family and her dedication to her late parents, John and Bessie Caranlik, her wide circle of friends, her generous heart and spirit and her laughter, warmth and compassion for others. Her heart of gold touched many lives and her example will be remembered by all who knew her. Liz made friends wherever she went and embraced them with love and kindness. A memorial service is planned. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Elizabeth Burgard be made to San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Ave., San Diego, CA 92103.

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
