Today's Featured Biography
Loren Evenrud
After graduating from DHS in 1961, I attended Luther College and graduated in 1965. Carole and I were married on June 13, 1964 at Burr Oak Lutheran Church. We lived in the Luther College Barracks (N-1) for one year while I finished my senior year at Luther College and Carole taught at John Cline Elementary in Decorah. In 1965, we both got teaching jobs in Manitowoc, WI and we spent three years there. In 1968, our first daughter, Kristin, was born and we move to Milwaukee where I earned my MA degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. In the summer of 1969, I received a graduate fellowship to study Gothic Architecture of the Île de la Cité (Paris, France). In the fall of 1969, I started teaching in the Edina School District (MN) and, during the summers, I worked in uniformed patrol with the Minneapolis Park Police. When the teacher cuts came in the late 1970’s, I became a full-time, sworn officer and worked with the Minneapolis Police until my retirement as a Lieutenant in 2003. I earned a 25 year pension (Minneapolis Police Relief Association). Along the way, I was involved in extensive training in the area of gang awareness and I picked up my Ph.D. in 1987 at the University of Minnesota (Dissertation: Crime Reporting in Minnesota Secondary Schools). In 2002, I was asked to teach online courses at Concordia University in St. Paul. I was an Adjunct Professor and I taught online courses in the undergraduate, BA, and MA programs until December 31, 2013.
Today, I am fully retired and serve in a volunteer capacity with the Shepherd's Center of the Cannon Valley and with the Goodhue County Historical Society.
Carole and I lived in Minneapolis for 28 years and we raised our family there. Our three children (Kristin, Sarah, and Nelson), attended Southwest High School and Carole taught at Armatage Elementary School until her retirement in 2003. We bought land on the Cannon River Valley in 1996 and we built our dream home, a pure timber frame with a great view. We enjoy quality time with our grown children, their spouses, and our 12 grandchildren. Life is good!!!
P.S. We still own a 160 acre farm in Glenwood Township and we appreciate the opportunity to contribute each year to the Winneshiek County tax base.

My apologies to those of you who have been startled or irritated by having music start when you come to this site. (I know I have been:)
It is now set so you must start the music here if you would like to listen to it. JCW
Hope these songs don't drive you nuts!
They are all from the 'Top 100' list for 1961. Remember - we used to LIKE this stuff :)

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
