Today's Featured Biography
Bekki Mangum
After graduation I visited my brother in Anchorage, Alaska. I spent a month up there and got ready to go on a mission to Hong Kong with Beccy Wujcik. Beccy and I trained at a Youth With A Mission (YWAM) base in Lakeside, Montana beginning in September, and then we left for Asia on December 5, 1990. I worked with a children's ministry and dressed as a clown and worked with six awesome people on the streets of Hong Kong. We returned to the states seven weeks later.
Next I began my journey through Idaho State University. Although I really didn't want to rush right back to school, I did start out as a full time student and struggled along. Eventually I slipped into part-time and night classes to finish up.
During my academic years I also took time off from ISU to persue more recreational adventures like the summer I lived with Chris Mathie up in Tacoma, Washington, and the spring I took a Greyhound bus to Mardi Gras in New Orleans with Shawn Phelps.
While doing all of these things I worked at Short Stop, 3G's, White Eagle, The Idaho Potato Expo, and I substitute taught at BHS until September of 1998. I started out at MVMS as a one-to-one aide in the special education department and the following year I moved into the library at MVMS as the aide there. It was during this time that I worked under the Wally Gurney administration and enjoyed every day of it. While at MVMS I was encourage to finish college, which I did with a bachelor's in English Education, minoring in Library Science shortly after our 15 year class reunion.
I was hired on to teach 8th grade English and Literature 10 days after graduation and love working with our great community!
During the summer of 2007 I was able to tour Europe with a group of students from BHS and had the time of my life!
