Bill (Wally) Bocznewycz (Boch)
After graduating, that was the start of my life. I got involved with Law Enforcement, took courses relating to just that and joined the Palatine Police Dept. Worked as a Radio Coomunications Officer for 4 years. Got to know the life of a cop and didn't want nothing more to do with that, so I moved forward in life. Leaving the police dept., I held several different blue collar jobs. Worked as a Material Expeditor for a tool&die company in Schaumburg, held a job with United Parcel as a loader in Northbrook, worked for a beer delivery company (barrels and cases) Skokie Valley Distributors- Wheeling. Landed a position with a local construction company, Milburn Bros. Mt Prospect. Held that job for 5 years, began in 1976 through 1981. Became unemployed due to a union strike later part of 1981. During these years, got married to my 1st wife in 1979. Bought a house in Rolling Meadows, small ranch, about 1100 square. My 1st born was Kristine, born in July of 1980. During this time wife worked, I sat and cared for my daughter collecting umemployment. It was rough going. In the fall of 1981, got interested in a new fade, VIDEO movies. I visited a local store in Palatine, Mr. Video, which was located across from Jakes on RT 14, which was located along the railroad tracks. I visited that place ALOT. Interesting that you could watch theatrical movies at home on a machine that cost me over $1200. (old RCA manual push buttons), but also interested that you could tape TV programs on this also!!!! The special interest was you could watch PORN movies in the privacy of your home. Being sold on this technology, I showed interest in becoming a partner in the business. Being this was the business to be in in the early 80's, I was offered an opportunity. I bought in and became part owner of a chain of stores located throughout Chicago and Suburbs. The store name changed from Mr. Video, and becoming incorporated, name was Video Alternatives. Again located in Palatine on RT 14, but we moved to a building accross from the Palatine Locksmith, not far from the Goodyear tire dealer. Well, I managed this location and 2 others in the city. I traveled ALOT. My day started 4am and ended at midnight. 6 days a week. Sunday was my day to be at home. Having a business than was very fortunate, but trying to hold a family together was most difficult. In the year or 1982, our son was born in August. Now we had 2 kids, and for a while both in diapers...!!!
As time passed and money was being made, we moved into a home, yet in Rolling Meadows, but a newer area and larger home. The home was about 3000 square. What a change that was. We rented out the other home though, no need to have sold it, made extra income, needed a tax write off. In 1985, there was a very traumatic experience that happened. Day before July 4th, 1985, store was burglarized. Nearly wiped out. Luckily with insurance and our movie distributors relationships, we had replaced about all we lost, but that took all of 6 months. We had been all this time in operations renting what we had and could get for our loyal customers. As the years rolled by, the food stores , drug stores, liquor stores started to carry movies and cut prices. We than once Hollywood Video, BLOCKBUSTERS got into the area...it was time to surrender and move on with something else. I than joined Motorola in 1990. I sold the stock of movies, yet keeping my favorites (actually I have about 600 VHS...) and closed the doors, in 1992. In 1995, my father passed away from having leukemia. Shortly after that, my marriage has suffered and I divorced in 1998. Gave up all to her and the kids. I needed to rebuild. I worked and traveled alot for Motorola. I traveled the world. China, Japan, Brazil, Turkey, London, Germany and most of the United States. During this time, I met my second wife, that worked for the same company that had a 3 year old, Kaylea. She worked in Purchasing, I in Manufacturing/ Production. We dated and decided that we could live with each other. So we rented a townhouse in Schaumburg for a year and bought a house in Lake in the Hills and married, in 2000. We married in September and I had a job opportunity for advancement that required me to spend 6 months in Japan. I left the 2nd week of October. Traveled back and forth monthly over the holidays. Grueling and very difficult, I made it through the winter and got back in the states in April. Eating alot of sushi and very starnge things. I survived.
Meanwhile, My daughter had married as so far provided me with 2 grandsons. 1st being Justin(7) and Riley(3) they lived in Rolling Meadows and recently remodeled their home. Just beautiful. Very spacious. Along those lines, we planned on building a home, so we found a builder that built 15 homes in an area close to us, about 1 mile away that borders Huntley and Lake in the Hills. We decided that was it, lets do it. We did just that. Larger home with all that we wanted.
We moved in 2003 and settled. In 2005, I was asked for a divorce. She wanted to live her life. She was turning 30. In May 2005 we separated, in October I bought her out, got divorced and changed my life. So, I needed to start a new. But than, I was aquainted with
a wonderful caring, loving woman that has made my life a dream and my life fulfilled. Her name is Michelle and her daughter's name is Krystyna, age 3. We had been together from October 2005. I call it faith. So, Plans are to marry one last time and live life to the fullest. So I turn 53 this year, my golden year, born in 1953, :-) I plan to retire from Motorola in about 8-10 years. By the way, I am the Network Support Manager for Verizon. What I do is a multitude of things, mainly make sure this customer has everything they need to have the telephonic/mobile system running without subscriber (yourselves) complaining about call drop or interruptions.
Keeps my days very busy with meetings and conference calls. I travel a bit less than I did, but all those miles I racked up before, we will now get the enjoyment of traveling on vacations to Aruba, Cayman Islands, and we're planning on going Italy. I especially love to party in San Diego, Phoenix and of course Key West. In short, because I could go on...This was my past 35 years since leaving Fremd.
