David Carlson

DAVE CARLSON, CEO of Film Foetus, is an award winning filmmaker who has produced & directed many independent shorts and feature length programs. He has been making movies since the age of eight and has been established in the Chicago film and video scene since 1990. He has screened his work nationwide in film fests and art houses and has been a special guest at festivals, universities and on television.

Carlson’s broadcast work includes directing documentaries for a variety of networks: IN-HD, CSTV, FoxSportsNet and Warner Bros Home Video. He has been a cameraman on specials for Discovery Channel, PBS, MSNBC, MTV, BET, The Learning Channel and National Geographic Television. In addition, he has shot Bravo Profiles for Billy Bob Thornton and Rod Steiger. He has also helped to create not-for-profit videos for National Housing Service Chicago, Vital Bridges Chicago, The Erickson Institute, and HOW-Housing Opportunities for Women.

His early independent work includes directing several music video programs within the Chicago Blues scene and for iconic WORD JAZZ artist Ken Nordine. He has lensed a documentary portrait of the Dalai Lama and created the critically acclaimed CHICAGO FILMMAKERS ON THE CHICAGO RIVER. In 1999, Carlson received a Panavision sponsored award given to the Most Promising Midwest Filmmaker, and in 2001 the Gene Siskel Film Center presented a retrospective of his work for the Starring Chicago film series.

Carlson’s recent films have focused on the creative process of his personal idols: Adrian Belew, Joe Frank & Paul Stanley. He is currently writing several scripts including a coming of age story based on his life as a gravedigger, and the soon to be released feature film JOHNNY DODGEBALL.

Daley, Rick Danko, Andrew Davis, Dana Delany, Willie Dixon, Anson Dorrance, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Roger Ebert, Joe Frank, Philip Glass, John Goodman, Jeff Gordon, Stuart Gordon, Buddy Guy, Tony Gwynn, Kirk Hinrich, Scoop Jackson, John Landis, John Malkovich, Michael Mann, Doc McGhee, John McNaughton, Richard Petty, Rick Pitino, Harold Ramis, Carlos Santana, Gene Siskel, John Smith, Kenny Stabler, Styx, Dwyane Wade, Joe Walsh, Bruce Weber, Charlie Weiss, Haskell Wexler, Johnny Winter, and John Wooden. He wishes he could interview Jeff Beck, Clint Eastwood, Ace Frehley and Werner Herzog.
