Today's Featured Biography
Eileen Rutledge Groth
I joined all of you at the beginning of eight grade after my family moved here from Texas. I saw my first snowflakes in St. Charles on our way to Geneva and they were so tiny that I thought we were going through a bunch of gnats!!!
After graduation, I went on to University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana Campus) and graduated in 1965 with a B.A in Spanish and American History. It was there that I met my first husband, Ed Carr (Electrical Engineer and now Chiropractor) and that marriage produced 2 children, Nicole (Nikki) 1970 and Nathan (Nate) 1975. There are 3 grandchildren from this marriage:
Zachary, Charlie and Kylee.
We moved to Davenport, Iowa in 1971 due to a job offer. There I got my first "real job" in 1973 as Director of a Spanish Speaking Elderly Program funded by the State of Iowa. In 1976, I became Personal Manager of Frank Foundries Corporation a plant of 400 employees, located in Moline, Illinois.
Then in 1980, I married Corwin (Cork) Groth (Mechanical Engineer). There must be something about engineers going on with me. I, then became Personal Manager of a Wonder Bread Plant in Davenport, Iowa which employed 350 in Davenport, Iowa. Cork and I have no children together but he has 2 children and 6 grandchildren.
Later, in 1998, I started a small home based company (Buttons- N-More) producing advertising badges which allowed me to spend more time (or so I thought), etc. with kid activities.
I have been on the Board of Directors for Nikki's Montesori School, Deer Valley Collectors ( an antique tractor organization) and Gathering of the Green, a nation-wide antique tractor organization which began in 2000.
I am presently facilitating a metaphysical group called of approximately 25 people in which we strive to learn, understand and practice alternative methods of healing and thinking in order to live more enriching lives.
I must say that I really enjoyed going to school in St. Charles with all of you and still have very fond memories of school activities, games, the HIlo and walking down the hill into town after school with Susan (carrying all of our books), having our favorite soft drinks, stopping at the stationery shop (we actually wrote letters back then) and then walking up the hill in order to get home and get on the phone in order to do our homework together.
Great Memories...
