United States Air Force Academy 1966, Pilot Training at Dell Rio, Texas 66-67. Married Sue A. Keller Gubser on the 22nd of December 1966!! F-4 Training at George AFB, CA, then to CamRahn Bay Vietnam [May68-69} Back to George for more training and then to Ubon, Thailand [Apr70-71]. Flew combat missions in South Vietnam,North Vietnam, and Laos.
1971-74 Three years in Anchorage, Alaska flying the F-4, then assigned to George AFB, as an Instructor Pilot, [74-77]. Trained German Pilots and American Pilots to fly and taught Aerial Warfare Tactics. Attended night school, Golden Gate U, and earned a Masters in Public Administration.
Spent the next two years as an Air Liaison Officer with the Army at Ft Carson, Colorado Springs [77-79] Then two years at the Air Force Academy as an Air Officer Commanding, for the 32nd Cadet Squadron. Helped train cadets and worked as their advisor, mentor, commander, etc... Helped graduate the first class of Women in 1980. Left Colorado for Germany in the fall of 1981, back to the F-4 at Ramstein, AFB Germany, was the Wing Plans Officer. In the fall of 83 my wife and I attended the Defense Language School in Monterrey, CA., where we both got a quick immersion in the French language. Then we headed off to Morocco in Jan 84. Head of the Air Force and Navy section of the Morocco US Liaison Office in Rabat Morocco. Worked closely with the Embassy staff and the Moroccan Military. This was Sue's favorite assignment. Left in the Summer of 86 for a short, one year, assignment at Bergstrom AFB, Austin Texas, at 12th AF Current Operations, flying a desk... Retired from the AF in August of 87.
Spent about a year and a half as a house husband, MBA Student and sometimes CFI, civilian flight instructor, before getting hired by United Airlines. Flew for UAL for about 14 years and retired as an A-320 Captain in April of 2003. Went directly to work for Northrop Grumman as a trainer/technician/jack of all trades... Helped get the Air Force and Navy PIlot Training Wings to convert to a new Training Management System. I have been with them to date, but am in the process of becoming fully retired.
