Susan Starcevic Respondek

After having attended Florissant Valley CC, Southern IL U at Edwardsville, & Muskegon County CC, I graduated from Grand Valley State College, Allendale, MI as of December 10, 1970.I had married Edward Whited of Alton, IL in April of that year. The marriage did not last very long after our son Joseph was born.

In 1973, moved to Michigan with Joe and began working for the State. I was a Social Worker mostly in Children’s Services, first in Juvenile Delinquency then in Children’s Protective Services, until I retired in 2002.

In 1980 married Thomas Respondek. We raised not only my son, but also his son Gerald and his stepdaughter, Lisa. In 1985 we were blessed with our own daughter, Victoria. In 1998, I became reacquainted with Leeta, who grown up in another part of Michigan, but whom now lives in Florida.

We are proud of our now adult children. Lisa graduated from University of Detroit Mercy, has her own Housekeeping Business, and will receive a Masters in Military History in June. Leeta and her husband own a Beauty Salon; Joe is a System’s Engineer and Vice President of his IT business. Gerald a Wayne State University graduate is a Mechanical Engineer who designs car parts, and Victoria, an Honors graduate from her high school is now attending my Alma Mater, now Grand Valley State University, from which she will graduate on April 28.

Presently, I am enjoying early retirement, crafting, quilting, desktop publishing, selling on eBay, and surfing the web. We now live in a large manufactured home on a pond. Our old house is still up for sale though.

We are also, enjoying our first, second and third granddaughters, Samantha (6 in June), & Riley Louise (1 in July), Joseph’s children with his wife Heather, and Joanna Arlene (1 also in July) Leeta's daughter with her husband, Dave.

Victoria is also married to an Airman, Brett, and Gerald will marry his fiancee, Irene in September.

In September 2006, The Purple Stars began meeting once a month with Queen Sue (me) as the founder. Red Hatting is a great way to have fun and make friends. If you are female, over 50, and in the Macomb County MI area, email me about joining our Chapter. The more the merrier.

Summer finds us on our small houseboat fishing in Lake St Clair. We also made frequent trips to visit with my father, Louis born in 1914, who lived with his second wife (Mom died in 1984) in Bloomington IL until his death in 2004.
