After graduation I attended MJC for a semester and then got married in 1971. I worked at City Bank in Moberly for several years as a secretary for Lois Polly, who was then Executive Vice President, and then on to Moberly Junior High as a secretary for Mr. Nelson and Mr. Yocum. Then later also I worked part time for City Bank and the school system and filled in whenever they needed me. Daryl and I moved to Troy, MO in 1998 and he retired last year from the railroad. We're enjoying this new life. I have played competitive volleyball since high school - over 30 years of wear and tear - ha - I quit playing last year (but would probably play again!) and enjoy cross stitching and swimming in our pool in the summer - that's where I'm usually at then! Daryl and I will celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary this June 2010. We have two great sons that we are very proud of. Life has been good. :) THOUGHT I'D BETTER UPDATE MY PROFILE - IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT SEVERAL CLASSMATES HAVE THOUGHT I PLAYED PROFESSIONAL VOLLEYBALL - NO WAY - NOT WITH THIS BODY! I GUESS I SHOULD HAVE MADE MYSELF MORE CLEAR. I PLAYED COMPETITVE VOLLEYBALL IN A LEAGUE FOR RECREATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY ALL THOSE YEARS -- PLAYED IN MOBERLY AND THEN MOVED HERE AND PLAYED IN WENTZVILLE. NO WAY AM I AN ATHLETE - BUT I COULD DRIVE A SPIKE DOWN ON SOME AND DO MY "SPECIAL" DINKS OVER THE OPPOSING PLAYERS - SUPPOSE THAT WAS A LITTLE INTIMIDATING - HA. WASN'T SO BAD FOR AN OLD LADY - MOST THAT I PLAYED WITH WERE ALOT YOUNGER THAN ME. THE BONES AND BACK FINALLY GAVE OUT SO I'VE HUNG UP MY CROSSTRAINERS. HA. The 40th class reunion was great! Really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next one! :)
Daryl and I celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary on June 6th, 2011. Lots of years and memories. Don't know where the years have gone (until I look in a mirror -- OOOOH!!)Thanks to all who remembered us with cards and emails.
Hope all of the Class of 70 are well and happy. See you in 2015 I hope!
Has been a while since I've updated my biography. Life gets away from us I'm afraid. Our youngest son, Brian, is running for Boone County Collector in Columbia, MO. The election is November 4th so if any of you are registered voters in Boone County or you know anyone that is he'd appreciate the vote!! His dad and I have been busy helping him with the campaign and it's been a fun experience. Lots of parades and lots of walking but that's good for us!
I've been trying my hand at songwriting. Have written several and one of our friends who is a country singer has put my words to music so that has been exciting hearing it sung. Not sure if anything will ever come of it but I enjoy writing poetry so one day my friend said to write a song so I did. :) I doubt seriously you'll hear it on the radio but who knows!!?? Ha.
Daryl and I are enjoying life after retirement and we are never lacking of something to do. Especially now that Brian has been campaigning and we follow a country music band here and there. And of course, I still swim. We have yet to close our pool for the winter but that's coming soon. I ventured in the other day and nearly froze but had to have one more swim before the cover goes on. It was a fast one though -- took me forever to warm up. My family and friends say I'm a member of the Polar Bear club. Ha.
Hope to see everyone in 2015. It'll be here before we know it! God Bless my classmates always!
Well, didn't get to the 2015 reunion. Had intended to but had another commitment for the same time. Hope those that went had a great time -- I'm sure they did! Can't wait to see pics on the class site. Hope to be there for the 50th if God sees fit.
I have written several more songs and a couple of other people are putting them to music. This has been an awesome experience. Waiting to hear from Marrs Studio in Nashville when they want us to come down and have our friend sing my first song to make a CD of it. It has been great hearing my songs being sung by my friends here locally - maybe someone will be interested in doing them beyond that. :) If not, it's been wonderful hearing my words come to a "music" life.
Our youngest son, Brian, is now the Boone County Collector so all our efforts paid off and he's doing a great job there. Chris is Produce Manager at Gerbes in Columbia and has been doing some traveling to Kansas to help set up other Produce Depts. They keep busy but manage to come home from time to time for a visit and FOOD. :) Both the boys have missed out on not having their Uncle Kent in their lives but I try and keep his memory alive and tell them stories about him. Kent was a good guy and he is really missed everyday. So many of our classmates and friends have passed away -- they are all missed and I am grateful for everyday God gives me here on earth.
Daryl and I are keeping busy -- him more than me. Ha. I tend to spend alot of time in the pool but once in awhile I wave at him when he's mowing. Ha. Seriously, we have been blessed to have celebrated 44 years together last June 6th. Where did those years go to?? I'm still 17 aren't I????? Nah, just a look in the mirror brings me back to reality. Ha.
Hi to all of my classmates and I hope life is treating you good.
Just an update - we have moved to Columbia, MO and are closer to our sons now. We are doing good - I have been singing the last couple of years -- traditional country music! I have sang on stage several places but mostly at Warrenton at the Belle Starr Theater. Friends of mine got me to try my hand at it. Haven't sang here lately because of the move recently but still get that chance from time to time. Another first in my life. Most of the time though I'm busy writing music or just enjoying what life brings my way.
August 2021
Covid kept me from singing on stage due to all the closings so I tried my hand at writing messages for church when I was asked to do the services. I found I like doing that and write about life in general. It seems to go over well with the congregation. Of course, though, with Covid I haven't done too many but now I have done a few in a row. Keeps my mind thinking and gives me something to do. Unfortunately when we moved from Troy my swimming pool stayed there so I've missed it terribly. It was my sanctuary and my escape from everyday life at the time. I'm sure Daryl got tired of me watching him mow from my cool swimming raft. I'd always wave at him though. Ha. Seriously it has been a trying time with Covid and all the restrictions. I still wear my mask everywhere in public and don't feel right if I don't. We have known several who have passed from it. Makes it all so real then. We both are fairly healthy and don't have too many complaints for which I'm grateful. However, from time to time I think I'm younger than I am and do something stupid. My body tells me about it the next day. :O I will always have fond memories of going to Moberly High School and being a part of the best class of 1970. So many good times and so many new experiences. Many that I'll never forget nor the people who were a part of all of them. Hope all of you that go to the reunion stay safe and have fun. Hopefully I'll be able to attend the next one. God Bless! "Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
