Today's Featured Biography
William Prusia
Immediately after graduation, I went to the Active Duty Army. I spent 18 months in Germany, following Basic Training and MP training. I reenlisted while I was in Europe and transferred to Fort Meade, MD. After a total of 4.5 years of active duty, I transferred to the Nebraska Army National Guard and attended school at Kearney State/UNK. I graduated in 1993 with a BA in Education and a K-6 teaching endorsement. I was also commissioned as an officer in the National Guard.
Following my Officer Basic Course, I was hired by Kearney Public Schools where I taught for six years. In 2000, I began working full-time with the Army National Guard having various assignments in Nebraska including: Officer Strength Manager (Recruiter), Logistics Planner and Operations officer on-board the National Airborne Operations Center (NAOC); team leader for a Nebraska Agribusiness Development Team in Afghanistan, Human Resources Officer, and Commander of the state Officer Candidate School (OCS). I was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in May of 2010.
I really enjoy my work, but love spending time with my family. Bicycles are somewhat of a passion for us; my wife and I recently purchased a tandem and we can often be seen cruising around the neighborhood or on the trail system in the Omaha area.
My lovely bride, Angela Welch Prusia, is an aspiring author and has recently published two young adult fiction books "BRAiN RIDE" and "Late Summer Monarch"; both are available on Amazon.
Another passion is working with youth, both in our church and through a camping program for teens in foster care called Teen Reach Adventure Camp (T.R.A.C.). Each summer, since 2009, we have held two 3-day camps; one weekend for boys and the other for girls. In 2013 we increased our involvement by being trainers; helping grow the program nationally by training new camp directors. It is likely T.R.A.C. will be a significant part of life following my retirement from the Army National Guard in 4-6 years from now.
