Today's Featured Biography
Jean Igler Wheeler
Wow, how do you navigate over the 30+ years and only pick out the great stuff? I kind of lumbered around for a few years after graduation, didn't really have a direction and had no idea what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go, virtual tabula raise!! In 1975, I chose to run away from home but I did it honorably by joining the Military, figured I had nothing to loose!! I found myself studying Helicopter armament systems in Maryland for nearly a year. I was able to travel a bit, got to go to DC quite a bit and made a lot of friends. I really enjoyed those years. After I completed tech school at APG, I was reassigned to a Maintenance Company in Hanau Germany. This was fortuituous as I had always wanted to go to Europe. Now after so long I found myself living there!! I was thoroughly enjoying the whole experience. I enjoyed my jobs in the Military, I worked on a small Air Kaserne called Fligerhorst, in Hesse, near Hanau not far from Frankfurt. I worked as a Maintenace Team leader troubleshooting and diagnosing Missile system problems for the Air Cav in Fulda, and as I became promoted to Specialist, then to Sergeant, I was selected as Inspector for 7th Corps IG team and traveled all over Europe for my tour as Inspector. It was a good way to see most of Germany and some other places as well. After my time in the Military, I had married during my final year in Europe, my husband and I settled in Tacoma for a few years, I took some courses and retained a position as a Field Engineer with NCR Corporation, and for five years ran a remote territory for NCR out of the Tacoma office. I had mostly restaurant clients and traveled as far as Ocean Shores and on to many other locations along the coast of Washington State at the time. My husband Craig, continued a carreer as an A&P Mechanic for Rotary Wing Acft after his TOD ended. In 1985, we decided to see what adventures we could fall into, in the Great State of Alaska. We also had started our family with the birth of our first daughter in Soldotna, Alaska. We both worked in Avaition during the next four years in various towns and venues in Alaska. It's a vast wilderness ,at once awsome as well as desolate! Life there was different, sometimes hard but always adventurous! We traveled from Dutch Harbor to Kotzebue in the Arctic Circle. Got to do a lot of flying and a lot of exploring, if you ever have a chance to go North to Alaska, it is indeed an adventure. We settled in Anchorage, Kenai, and Nome respectively, and let me say, you really can't get there from here!! After a while I guess the lure of travel and adventure wore off because we found ourselves in Spokane, Washington. Needless to say things didn't work out, and I found myself with two small daughters to care for and embarked on a return to the area. I must say that the changes astounded me at first. I never expected the Capital Region to stagnate, however the provinciality it held was one of the more special charms the area held for me. Oh well it's progress whether you want it or need it, doesn't seem to matter. I was surprised by the growth though, the area has uber expanded in the past thirty years by great leaps and bounds. Now I have settled in to a "regular" and possibly mundane life. My daughters are pretty much grown, one is married already the other in college. I have been most fortunate with careers here in the area. For 12 years I worked in the Engineering Dept at ABC 10 WTEN on Northern Blvd in Albany, as a Master Control Engineer. I now work at WMHT in the RPI Tech Park in East Green Bush, as a Broadcast Engineer/MCO Tech. It is interesting work and I may not be saving lives but saving the world from Commercial TV seems a good trade off. I was pretty anonymous in High School and I think I probably still am. I'm sure like many of us I was and am a forgettable commodity, however I enjoy touching base with old friends and aquaintances, finding out about how our comrades have spent thier times and sharing what little I have encountered with whoever might care to know. I'd like to hear what other people have been up to and how they have spent the last thirty or so years. It sure went fast didn't it? Later j

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
