Today's Featured Biography
Keith Cheng
After graduating from Sweet Home High in 1972, he earned a BA in Biochemical Sciences at Harvard University. He then earned an MD at the New York University School of Medicine. From there, he pursued residency training in Anatomic Pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston and at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he also earned a PhD in Molecular Genetics at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute. He then moved to the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, where he is a member of the Jake Gittlen Cancer Research Institute, Associate Professor of Pathology, with a joint appointment in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. There, he pursues his interests in cancer genetics using zebrafish functional genomics.
He has continued his musical activities since high school. While in Buffalo, he studied piano with Allen Giles of the Villa Maria School of Music and Carlo Pinto (SUNY At Buffalo); in Boston, he studied piano with Harriet Shirvan and chamber music with Patricia Zander (New England Conservatory of Music). He founded the MUSIC for JAKE chamber music benefit for cancer research, where he appeared with HSO Concertmaster Odin Rathnam in 1996, 1997, and 1999, co-founded the Kienle Humanities series at the Penn State College of Medicine, and serves on the Board of WITF. He lives in Hummelstown with his wife, Dr. Shou Ling Leong (Family Medicine) and two sons, Anthony (18), a violinist, now at U. Penn) and Jonathan (16), a high school junior who plays cello and is passionate about drawing.
