Today's Featured Biography
Ernest Horn
Following graduation from YSH and uncertain as to what I wanted to do in life, I became very active with the York City Fire Department seeing action during one of the most tumultuous eras of the department following the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. During these years I met my soon to be wife, Randi Moul Horn whose Father was also very active in the department and a well-known insurance agent in York. We have been happily married for 48 years and enjoy our two adult children Chip and Jennifer and our four grandchildren.
I eventually made the decision to enter the family business where I started on the bottom rung of life’s ladder and worked my way upward eventually performing every job in the organization. In 1971 two companies merged to form Pennfield Corporation which went on to become one of the largest most diverse regional agri-businesses companies in the United States. Pennfield was heavily involved in development and manufacturing of animal nutrition products, table egg production and marketing, production and marketing of fresh, locally grown poultry products, production and sales of field seeds and the food distribution business. In 1995 I was appointed President and CEO of Pennfield a position I held until my retirement in 2012.
Throughout my career, I was appointed by Gov. Robert Casey to serve on the Governor’s Rail Freight Advisory Board, I served as Chairman of The American Feed Industry Association, a worldwide trade organization representing the agri-business industry, I served as President of PennAg Industries, a trade organization representing the agri-business industry in Pennsylvania and surrounding states and I served on the Ag Advisory Board of First Union Bank, now Wells Fargo.
Randi and I consider Lancaster to be home but spend the cold months in Naples Florida and much of the summer in Bethany Beach, DE. Our daughter and two of our grandchildren reside in Kansas City, MO where we visit several times each year. Life is good and we are grateful for what we have. I would love to be home for one of the YSH Class of 65 events and to visit with my classmates.
If any of my classmates get through Lancaster, Bethany Beach, DE or Naples, FL look us up, chances are good we will be there depending on the time of year. Be great to toast the good ole days at York Suburban High.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
