Today's Featured Biography
Tom Milhorn, MD, PhD
Tom Milhorn played football and ran distances in track at DB. He graduated from Lincoln Memorial University in 1960 with majors in mathematics and physics. In 1964 he received a PhD in physiology and biophysics from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. This was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in biomathematics at North Carolina State University. In 1975 he obtained his MD from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and subsequently completed a family medicine residency. In 1987 Tom was certified in addiction medicine by the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
His wife, Kay, is a former neurological and neurosurgical nurse specialist. Their son, Toby, is a graphic designer in Gulfport, Mississippi and a stepson, Steve, is a TV commercial producer and director in Huntsville, Alabama.
Tom retired from the faculty of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1992 with the ranks of Professor of Family Medicine, Professor of Physiology and Biophysics, and Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. At the time of retirement he was board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and certified in Addiction Medicine by the Society of Addiction Medicine.
Moving to Meridian, Tom did private practice for five years, followed by four years of Addiction Medicine and General Medicine at East Mississippi State Hospital.
In 2005 Tom was inducted into the Lincoln Memorial University Alumni Hall of Fame.
Tom is now permanently retired, except for reading, writing, web design, teaching basic computer courses, giving occasional presentations, working out, keeping up with University of Kentucky basketball and various other hobbies.
So much for permanent retirement. On July 1 2014 I accepted the position of co-director of the EC-Healthnet Family Medicine Residency Program in Meridian,MS.
