Carolyn Ruth Sayre
I worked at Clear Lake Hospital, AKA Humana Clear Lake, AKA Columbia, AKA Clear Lake Regional Hospital for 20 years. I was the
3-11 Supervisor in the Laboratory. My specialty was Hematology. For the last 12 years I have been the substitute teacher/schol nurse in Galveston ISD.
Twelve years ago I married Jay Smith at the Galveston Court House. We went in to fill out the papers and pay our money. The girl was very helpful. When it was all over I asked "is this going to be published anywhere (like the Galveston Daily News?") She said "oh no, you are just a page in a book".
The most interesting trip we have taken was to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. I read Darwin's Origin of the Species. What better place. It was really wonderful. The animals and birds and lizards just go on with their lives like you are not there. We also got to see Lonesome George. He was the last of his kind on one of the islands. They are also having a turtle breeding and reintroduction plan at the Darwin Center. We got to see lots of little turtles with numbers on their shells indicating which island was to be their final home. We saw no Condor except at the Museum.
We live on the beach in Galveston in an elevated A-frame house. We have 3 dogs and an inside cat named Scruffy. Jay has planted 32 palm trees around our property and a girl came by one day and asked if she could take her wedding pictures by our garden. No one can refuse that request.
