Today's Featured Biography
Scott Hallgrimson
Happily married to my best friend Rebecca for 26 years, love her more and more every day. Two grown, productive children, teacher and a banker, plus a grandson!! I work from home, my wife 1 block away, shortest commute in our lives and loving it. My English bulldog Lola snores in the distant background and keeps me company through the day.
The background story: arrived at Ingy in 1982 via Northgate Christian School. All my friends went to Kings High School, and I had to start over making new friends. Buried my head in the books as home life at that time was challenging which is why some of you got the impression I was a “studious” kid. Studying was actually an outlet to help me to deal with change. Many of you did not get to know me well since I spent much time hanging out w/ friends from my old school, but was fortunate to make new friends at Ingraham. Among my favorite memories were the spontaneous road trips taken with my slightly crazy, adrenaline junkie friend Doug Hamilton whose anesthesiologist dad owned a mansion complete with a pool-sized hot tub overlooking Shilshole Bay Marina. The two of us created our own Ferris Bueller type high school memories, racking up tons of miles on spontaneous road trips in his tricked out 82 gold Honda Accord, white knuckling some stretches of I-5 at 110 mph with ear splitting music crushing our skulls as one massive subwoofer thumped violently from the rear hatch of his car. I have him to thank for my minor loss of hearing. Most of our adventures started with lots of caffeine and the psychotic wide eyed question “where to next?” On one of those crazy trips I met my wife for the first time at Langley on Whidbey Island. Doug made the mistake of leaving me alone with her while he said hi to some friends he knew. In the months that proceeded, he did his best to keep us apart since he had a little crush on her too. And we know how that whole story ended. Attended PLU, UW, Concordia then graduate work at Multnomah Biblical Seminary. Worked in electrical supply, banking, food industry, forest products, medical, and medical IT for last 10 years or so. Moved around from Seattle, Des Moines, Portland, Winston where we currently reside. Desire was to preach the gospel, but got kicked out of a missionary organization for not compromising on a particular doctrine. I guess I was not easily manipulated. Still very strong believer but with a slight renegade attitude sometimes, and I have my full share of past sin. I'm trusting completely on Christ to get me to heaven, hope you are too. Early marriage was very tough – two kids, work, college, and trying to survive. My wife and I could have been another divorce statistic since we had pressures from all sides. But by the grace of GOD, we are still hopping along. Our jobs and passions moved us progressively south. We landed here in the Umpqua Valley where we raised our family. Most of my family has died off, including my brother Don, who died very recently and I am still kind of mourning him. My oldest brother Kevin lives in Sammammish, WA. My wife's side of the family is moderately large and we do lots of stuff together including reunions at Manzanita, OR. Road trips are fun for us, recently enjoying another trip on the Rogue River in the Hellgate jetboats out of Grants Pass. Worth doing if you haven't done it before. We love coffee, relaxing on our deck with some Jack Johnson or Nora Jones on Pandora, and enjoying some BBQ. My wife works hard at Bimart and gets us great deals on whatever we need. Couple nights a week I stumble into the YMCA where I try to keep up with a P90x or some type class. Gives me an excuse to occasionally indulge Oreos and milk in the evenings.
Some high school memories: waterskiiing & jet skiing w/Randy Gardner on Lake Sutherland in Port Angeles at his family’s property. I owe gratitude for his friendship and teaching me everything I know about waterskiing. Sitting next to Sean Perez in biology learning the SQ3R method or whatever it was, then getting a Ham & Cheese at the Sandwich Isle during lunch (great sandwiches!), listening to Magic by the Cars cranked up in his Chevy Nova. Another memory was hearing Leif routinely ask Frau Ross “Noch einmal bitte.” It was one of those expressions which bought us all some time when learning something new. Frau Ross loved all of us, but especially Leif and Greg Ferguson. Steve kept us in stitches with his improvised expressions, “let’s check the roast on that car of yours.” Mr Pogreba made Algebra less boring by doing math problems in chalk on the carpet next to our desks. You knew class was toast when Mr. Ball’s patience ended and white sputum developed at the corners of his mouth. Very nice teacher. The sound of someone laying rubber outside Mr Helgeson's computer classroom. Watching Phil “Bubba” Barker kill a crow with his tee shot on the 7th hole at Jackson Park then proceeding to haul it around for the rest of the round so he could collect extra credit the following day in biology. Learning about urban surfing. Cruising Alki, Bjornstad style. Jeff talked two Blanchett girls into joining us for the cruise, one of whom became my girlfriend for awhile - her dad was good friends w Mr Pogreba which made things interesting. Todd Bjornstad got most of us through Math Trig with his relentless question asking. Exposed to some brilliant minds, one of whom was Jason Nonis. He owned gigantic dogs, slept about 3 hours a night, and put on an awesome poker party, the pot limit manageable until Leonard showed up and raised the stakes. Some precious few moments interacting with Toby Shultz in German class. Privilege of playing against Rob Davis on many occasions and witnessing his remarkable talent.
Thanks for putting together this reunion and giving many of us a chance to reconnect or reminisce. Hoping it goes well. Unfortunately, unless something changes in my schedule, I cannot go since there is a wedding I am scheduled to attend. If things change, I look forward to being there.

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
