Bonnie Albertsen

After CKHS, I graduated from Central Washington (it was still a state college then) with a BA in Broad Area Music. I taught for 2 years at the Coeur d'Alene Tribal school (between Coeur d'Alene & Moscow, ID), before moving on to teach in Elgin, OR for a couple of years (it is near La Grande, OR). I then decided to take a different look at my choice of career, so I started out as a police & fire dispatcher for Clarkston WA PD. When the new jail was built in 1985, my position was transferred to the jail, along with dispatch. I became the first sergeant in the jail/dispatch. I also became a trainer in may aspects of dispatch and corrections. I have been the Jail Commander, E911 coordinator, and am currently the Programs Manager. In some of that time, I was also the shop steward for our union, and was instrumental in bringing in a lot of new ideas and progress to the department.

I have been here for 27 1/2 years, and I am thinking about retiring from here, and finding something else to do. I haven't decided WHAT to do yet, but I am looking at possibilities.

I never married, but was close to it twice. I have no children. I have had cats, and currently, 2 fish. My "kids" are the three children of my best friend, who I met while at my first teaching job. (As a side note, I remember the day I got my first job and the day Elvis Presley died - it was my 22nd birthday!)

Like everyone else, I have had my ups and downs. I have been living in Clarkston for the last 27 1/2 years, and love it! It is called "The Banana Belt" for a reason- it is warm, we get snow, but rarely long enough to cause any problems. If I want snow, I simply drive out of the Hell's Canyon in the winter and I can find it.

My dad passed away in 2005. My siblings, James, Liz & Caroline, all live in eastern WA near each other. We keep in touch!

I haven't played a musical instrument for several years now. My hobbies include knitting and crocheting, a little sewing, reading, and of course, listening to music. I like to float the rivers in the Idaho Panhandle area, but haven't done a lot of white water rafting. I also do some minor gardening (flowers). And other than my friends, I think that's about it!
Update May 2025
I retired in September 2012 - shy of my 30 years. I am taking it easy, working on my crafts, and spending time with my "four grandsons", who range in age from almost ten to almost thirteen. I have been volunteering one day a week in a local 5th grade reading program, too. Just chillin', enjoying life.
2022 - Still enjoying retirement. Thinking about buying a new kayak for the rivers. One godson graduated last year, and two will graduate this year. The youngest has another year to go. Looking forward to our reunion.
