Today's Featured Biography
Virginia (Ginny) Parsons Kaschmitter
I am very sorry I won't be attending this reunion. 50 years is pretty amazing! I especially regret not coming after I read Millard Petty's great biography. I think, Millard, that you captured the experiences of many of us in our generation. Thanks for being so honest! (Remember Park School? I remember Georg Jensen's first day, in first grade, in Miss Frances Cooper's class. Georg's mom had sent him in cowboy boots, probably so he would fit in better. (He was from Denmark.) Miss Cooper couldn't stand the sound they made on the wood floor and told him not to wear them anymore. She wouldn't stand a chance in today's classrooms!
My short biography is just one of gratitude and amazement that my life turned out so much differently than I thought it would. I saw myself becoming another Albert Schweitzer, or a famous author, or (thanks to Mr. Weishaar), an engineer. I can tell you after 43 years of being married to the same engineer, I would have made a TERRIBLE engineer. (Sorry, Mr. Weishaar.)
Instead, I worked in a college library. It was a great job for me because I loved the students that worked there. All of them were WAY smarter than I, so they made my job a piece of cake. After I left the library, my husband and I decided to start our own consulting business and that was a very good decision.
Through no effort on my part, and due to Gerald's job, I have been able to travel to places I dreamed of back when we got our Weekly Readers. We took our family (2 daughters) to the outback of Qinghai Province (China) in the late 1980's and lived there for 15 months, then returned in 2003. Gerald has contracted with a firm headquartered near Berlin, so we have made quite a few trips there. How cool to see the places I read about in high school and college ... Berlin, Potsdam, Amsterdam, Dresden. Hey, let's not go to war again, ok? The effects on human beings are just too awful.
Neither of our daughters is married, so we have no grandchildren -- something I didn't foresee. I am grateful that they both live fairly near us in Spokane. (Go Zags! Gonzaga Bulldogs.)
We are pretty much retired right now and enjoy puttering. I love my garden and have high hopes for tomatoes and eggplant and cucumbers this year. I will soon be making pesto and bruschetta. Oh, Italian food!
I still love to read and read and read and I wouldn't turn down a trip to some far off place if I thought I could afford it. And, maybe even if I couldn't afford it.
Best wishes to all the classmates of 1967. Stay well, laugh every day, forgive generously. Much love, Virginia Parsons (aka Ginny Kaschmitter)

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
