Today's Featured Biography
Jeff Carroll
Left Vanden after graduation and went right into the (Nuclear) Navy. After 2 years of training was assigned to the USS Truxtun CGN-35. Went on two WesPacs - went to Australia (both coasts), Hong Kong, New Zealand, Philipines, South Korea, Singapore, Karachi, Pakistan, Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Seychelles Islands (off the coast of Kenya). Crossed the Equator/International Date Line (Golden Shellback). Kept an eye on Edi Amin (remember him?). Discharged in Aug 1979.
Met my true love, Jolean Salsman (Vaca High class of '74 I think) in 1978 on a blind date set up by my brother, Gerry. Proposed at the Golden Gate Bridge and married on Sep 15, 1979. Had Bryan in June of '81 (works in the Post Office and at a Childrens Crisis Center), Jessica in Nov '82 (at ASU majoring in art education). Very proud of both my kids.
After the Navy started work for Bechtel Power Corporation from 1979 to 1986 as a QC Engineer. Built Units 2 & 3 at San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station south of San Clemente in Southern California.
Went on to Arizona and built all 3 Units at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station - 50 mile west of Phoenix.
Left Bechtel and worked as a contractor for IBM in Radiation Protection at Palo Verde from 1986-1988.
Got a job with Arizona Public Service (APS) at Palo Verde in 1988 - currently work in Work Management. I work with Mike Muhs almost every week!
And yes, I do have a complete copy of the Captain Video newspaper in my possession. I'm working with the committee to try to get something on the website.
Looking forward to seeing everyone this October.
