Today's Featured Biography
Leonard Sapp
Enrolled in RETS Tech School in Miami July after Graduation 1959. Employed by Boeing as a Missile technician after 12 straight months of a 6 hr day of Electronics Technology in 1960.Helped prepare and launch Bomarc Missiles from Santa Rosa Island,Fl. Transfered to Cape Canaveral,Fl, Jan 1962.
Worked on 50 some odd Minuteman rockets until
getting a ground floor opportunity Missile Tech job on the Early version of the Saturn SIV Rocket, part of the Apollo program 1963.
Received 12 paid suggestion awards on improvements to the Missile, and ground support equipment during the early Saturn
launches. Promoted to a non-degreed Associate Engineering position On the Saturn 5 when activation was started on the giant VAB, and Firing rooms were being configured. Awarded 2 more Coveted Value in Performance awards for ideas during the checkout, and launch of Apollos 8,9,& 10. The company was now McDonnell Douglas, we were the 3rd stage , instead of the 2nd stage on pads 34, & 37.
Promoted to Launch Umbilical tower Engineer on Apollo 11, the highlight of my career.
Meant time Jackie & I were blessed with 3 wonderful Daugthers.We now have 9 grand kids.Spent a year on the Skylab space staion launch, and then went on to work for Xerox for 27 yrs,most of the time at KSC , Fl.
