Today's Featured Biography
Fred Thompson
My family moved to Hialeah from Hartford, AL, in 1947 and we lived there until 1973. Attended Hialeah Elementary grades 1-6. Hialeah Junior High was opened in 1953 with grades 7, 8 & 9. I was in the first 7th grade class and followed through to the 12th. The school was only two blocks from our house on 50th Place so I was able to watch it being built. After graduation, joined the Air Force and attended tech school at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, IL, training in airborne electronics. In 1961, posted to Turner AFB in Albany, GA, as part of the 1370th Photo Mapping Wing and worked on C-130's and B-50's. Had four TDY tours to Hawaii, Bogota Columbia, Port Moresby New Guinea, Georgetown, British Guiana (South America) and discharged July, 1964. Returned to Hialeah and applied for a position with Southern Bell. Many of my family members worked for the Company. I met my future wife, Nancy Aaron while she was working as an Operator in my mother's unit. In 1972, I was fortunate enough to be picked as part of the elite group supporting the Democratic and Republican conventions on Miami Beach. The 6 months duty was a real experience where I learned from some of the sharpest Telephone guys in the country. I moved my family from Hialeah to Panama City, FL, in 1973 when it became impossible to go to the store unless you could speak Spanish. We bought a small farm near Chipley, FL, and commuted 50 miles each way to work. When AT&T divested in 1984, I followed my job and joined the Large Business/Computer group. Then in 1991, AT&T gave up the business and turned it over to NCR. Salliemae was just starting construction on a large call center in Panama City and they cast their Telecom fate with me. I retired from AT&T and joined Salliemae in October, 1991. I remained with Salliemae until they closed the Panama City center in 2009, retiring (again) as their Sr. Telecom Engineer. We bought a diesel motor home, flats boat and ATVs and have been touring the USA as time and fuel money permits. Sold the motor home in 2011 as insurance became a burden and we seldom used it anymore. Now we spend time at home and have fallen into a rut as home bound senior citizens. Our big treat is to go to breakfast on Friday with friends. Sad to see so many of our classmates are no longer with us.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
