After graduating, I attended then, Memphis State University and received a BFA in Art Education. In 1973, I began teaching Visual Art with Memphis City Schools and here I am today! Becoming active in teaching, working with local, state and national art education associations, I continue to enjoy the role of art educator. In 1986, I was the first elementary visual art teacher for MCS to pilot the newly developed conceptual based visual art curriculum, hoping that we would receive funding to hire visual art teachers for all elementary schools. After a three year pilot, the funds were eliminated and I returned to the secondary classroom, where I taught until 2003 at Whitehaven High School in one of the nine advanced placement art programs for the district. I am unmarried and have lived and worked in Memphis since graduation. Restoring a 50 year old log cabin on a 15 acre lake in Raleigh during the 80's, then moving to midtown into an 90 year old "money pit"! It seems every project creates another one, but, the charm and aesthetic elements of an older home in a historic district makes it all worth the effort. I am still a midtowner and love it. In the summer of 2003, the new associate superintendent, Mr. John Avis, recruited me to become the Visual Art & Theatre Coordinator for Memphis City Schools. When the Shelby County Schools and the Memphis City Schools mergerd, I survived and am now the Visual Art Instructional Advisor and work closely with 300 Visual Art teachers across the new district. I am in my 42th year with the district and am excited about the opportunities and challenges facing the arts in the educational setting today. With the merger, the Fine Arts Department created and piloted a Fine Arts Growth Measure for Arts Teachers evaluations...Yea, we no longer have to be evaluated by standardized testing results for our schools. Shelby County Schools is now the 14th largest in the nation.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
