Today's Featured Biography
Lynn VanLeer
I went to Colorado College for a year and just didn't fit in. Took three years off and worked at WaldenBooks. Got a job at StorageTek and returned to school for a BA in Russian Studies, and Environment Society Relations. After getting my degree I lived in Tucson with a friend for a few months, then bought a one way ticket to Washington, DC to find a job with a nonprofit that dealt with Russia. I ended up at a place called the U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation (CRDF) for 6 years. There I went from escorting former bioweapons scientists on U.S. visits to assisting the CEO to working on webpages.
In the end I discovered that I'd rather not spend 24 hours a day on my job, and DC is ok, but I missed the West. Since I'd moved towards information management and organization. I decided to get a piece of paper to make it official. So now I'm in Bloomington and 1/2 done with my MLS. I work part time with the Librarian for the Slavic Collection, and put in a few hours with the Librarian for Political Science and Global Studies. All in all I'm pretty happy. Bloomington is the smallest town I've lived in, but is rich in the arts. It has one of the best music schools in the country, and there's freakin' artists everywhere singing opera and jazz and whatnot. :) It's ok for now, but I don't see myself staying here. I still miss Colorado.
