Today's Featured Biography
Rita Yarbrough Aldrich
After graduation, I attended Georgia Southern College.It was there I met my husband, Bill.As a matter of fact, it was Charles Eunice that introduced us.Bill and Charles were on the gymnastics team and Bill had seen me with Charles and wanted to meet me.The rest is history.
In the summer of 1965, I worked in the first Headstart Program as a teacher's aide.The teacher I worked with was Mrs. Brooks, Sonny Brooks' mother.That same summer Bill and I got engaged and were married on March 19,1966.
Bill was a teacher, coach, and administrator starting in Hall County, Lowndes County and ending with Valdosta City Board of Education.
We have 2 children - Brian, age 49 and Jennifer, age 36.Brian is single and works for FYE (For Your Entertainment) as assistant manager.Jen works for CVS as a Pharmacist and Kevin, her husband, is Area Property Manager for Landmark Properties.They both work in Athens. Tyler and Allie are their children.
At the age of 7 Brian had a benign brain tumor removed at Shands Hospital.As a result he is on medication for the rest of his life.The tumor did partial damage to his optic nerve and he has impaired vision.He cannot drive a car and depends on us or a cab to get back and forth to work.He lives with us.
I was a stay at home mom until Brian was 8.I have had several jobs throughout the years.I have been a bookkeeper,teacher's aide and secretary.The last job I had was as an executive secretary to the owner and head architect at J.Glenn Gregory & Associates, Architects.I worked there until I retired in July 2010.I'm still friends with my former boss and his wife, Sherri and see them as much as possible.
Bill retired last year and we both love retirement.He loves to work outside and I love to work inside.It works for us.
In my spare time I love to read mystery books with a touch of romance.I exercise most every day.I really love going to visit my grandchildren the most.I have a grandson, Tyler, age 6 and a granddaughter Allie, age 4.
Bill and I went on a Hotrod Power Tour in the summer of 2011.We rode in Bill's Classic 1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442, black with red interior, convertible.That was the hottest summer ever!We traveled from Valdosta to Cocoa Beach, back to Valdosta, Montgomery,AL and ended up in Nashville,TN.We did not go all the way to Detroit,MI.That was my first Hotrod Power Tour and my last.
Well that's my life in a nutshell.I have been blessed with a good life in spite of a few bumps in the road.
