Today's Featured Biography
Rob Sprout
After graduating, I left Rising Sun for the Air Force. Milking cows and plowing fields wasn't for me. I haven't been back to Rising Sun or Maryland much since leaving.
I have been blessed with two wonderful children, Kris Shaunna who is 20 and Tyler Cameron who is 10 this year.
In the Air Force I spent the first 4 years as a cop in Montana, Alaska and New Jersey and then for the next 18 years, I managed airport operations centers in New Jersey, Illinois, Germany, Turkey, Illinois (again), Kenya, Bosnia, Somalia, Spain and finally in German (again). I spent 3 years in Hawaii as a nuclear weapons warfare advisor to the President and Secretary of Defense.
After 22 1/2 years in the Air Force, I called it quits and retired. I was able to visit all 50 states and travel to over 50 countries and loved my military career. I fell in love with Germany while here, so after retirement, I moved to Stuttgart Germany, got a house and starting working for the U.S. Africa Command developing and modernizing Africa nations militaries communication systems. It keeps me busy and traveling a lot to Africa.
German life is great! Living here enables me to travel a great deal and relax. In the summer I enjoy running half marathons throughout Europe, camping, trekking and mountain climbing. Last year I climbed several mountains in Switzerland, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, and the Zugspitze, the tallest mountain in Germany. In June this year, my son and I backpacked for 4 days across the Lysefjord in Norway and on July 8th, at 0631 CET, I summitted Mont Blanc in Chamonix France, the tallest mountain in Western Europe. Hope to be heading to Russia late this summer, early fall to attempt a summit on Mt Elbrus, weather depending.
During the winter, I try to ski as much as possible throughout Austria, Switzerland, Italy and France.
Stuttgart is a great place to live. One of the safest places in Europe, the people and culture is magnificent and there are many fests throughout the year which brings the city together for beer, wine, great food, music and great times.
