Today's Featured Biography
Carol Bortz Pavlicek
Hi everyone! Hope you're doing well. Just to fill you in a little bit about my life since GHS - I graduated from CMSU with a BS in Ed., majoring in French with a minor in English. My husband Joe and I married in August right after graduation (soon celebrating 46 years to the same wonderful man). I then taught for 4 1/2 years at Smith Hale Jr. High (Hickman Mills District). After the birth of my two daughters, Erin (1973) and Gretchen (1976) I decided to become a stay-at-home mom for my kids, plus I was able to be supportive to my husband in his career at Bayer Corp. He traveled extensively in the US as well as to Cologne, Germany, the headquarters of the Bayer Corp, a German company from the onset. It was great to accompany him on many of those trips.
We moved to Leawood, KS from South Kansas City in 1988. Our girls graduated from Blue Valley High School where our youngest daughter played snare drum in the marching band for all four years. Thanks to my dad, her grandfather (Fred Bortz) she received some early training before she entered 7th grade. Therefore, I enjoyed doing volunteer work at Blue Valley, especially for Band Parents. It was fun coordinating the yearly chili suppers that would benefit the band in those days.
It's nostalgic to think of all the time that has passed, but life is good. The girls both graduated from college: (K State and NW, Maryville, MO and went on to become RN's (Washburn University). Erin is a cardiac nurse at Storemont-Vale Hospital in Topeka, residing in Lawrence and is a budding novelist. Gretchen received her masters from KU Med. and is a nurse Practitioner at Asthma and Allergy in Overland Park. We love being grandparents! Gretchen and her husband Shawn have two children (Ava, 8 years old and Alec, 5 years old) and live nearby in Leawood.
After retirement, my husband and I bought a home in Lake Ozark for years ago and we divide our time between the Lake and Leawood when it's nice.
The Lake has been a great place to get the whole family together since our son-in-law and his family love the Lake also. We look forward to watching our grandchildren grow up - it happens so fast! Plus many more days and nights relaxing at the lake.
Best wishes to all of you!
Carol

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
