Today's Featured Biography
David Booth
I graduated from KSU in the June class of 1970 with a degree in Journalism (thank YOU, Mrs. Hutchison) and worked on a business magazine in Cleveland for about a year. I went to work in Public Relations for Babcock & Wilcox’s Bailey Controls division in Cleveland and married a girl from Tallmadge, divorcing in 1975 after the longest five years of my life. I was a field reporter very briefly on The Afternoon Exchange tv show on Channel 5 in Cleveland. In fact, if you went to the bathroom the wrong day, you missed nearly my entire television career. In 1980, I transferred to B&W’s most-remote division in faraway Irvine, California and married for the second time that same year. I obviously made a much better choice this time, as Karen and I will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary in October.
I was the PR and Advertising manager for that company until 1986, when the combination of boredom, my approaching 40th birthday and an absolutely miserable boss caused me to chuck it all and start my own company, literally in the garage of my house. We design and build custom trade show exhibits and have been fortunate enough to work for Disney (Disneyland and Walt Disney World), Oakley, Warner Brothers, French entertainment giant Vivendi Universal, and many more. We struggled through the recession, but survived. Today the company is a nice comfortable size with 10 people in the core group. The best thing is that it gives me the freedom and enough income that Karen and I can lavish a lot of time on our 13-year-old niece and do a fair amount of traveling (Kauai and Europe primarily).
Restoring old sports cars is my main hobby and I currently have two early 1960s Ferraris in pieces in my shop. I’m also a diehard Cleveland Browns fan and get together with a group of ex-Clevelanders to watch the games on the satellite. We also have a small vineyard and will make our first vintage this year.
When my stepdad died in 1999, I moved my Mom, out here with me. She passed away in 2011 at age 98. Therefore, I never get back to Northeast Ohio. I still have wonderful memories of it though; very few of which involve snow. I also keep a special place for all of you, and marvel at the effect we had on each other’s lives and the people we became, such a long but somehow short, time ago. Hope to see you all at the reunion.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
