Redith Kilgore Kiser
Once upon a time, there was a girl, named Redith, who was told she couldnt go to college. So, she did. She went to Tulsa University for three years and then transferred to the Medical Center campus at Indiana University. After being on the campus for three months, she was elected (after singing, talking to judges, and wearing a very beautiful gown) the QUEEN of the Allied Health Professions Campus. That's an Okie for ya! She was the last to marry of her friends and the first to divorce since her physician husband had other interests-if you get my drift. Fortunately, Redith had been working on continuing education credits for her medical record professional requirements. Living in Longview, Texas did not afford alot of opportunities for CE's; therefore, she worked on a master's degree in Psychology. Ten days before her last semester at University of Texas at Tyler, she realized a divorce was in order. She graduated with a 4.0 (too bad the counselors at Will Rogers thought she wasn't college material). After graduation and pursuit of work, she moved to Fort Worth, Texas with two children, Roganne and Reid. She worked at All Saints Health Care for 14 years as Director of Medical Records. During that time, she was President of the Texas Medical Record Association, a member of the Assembly of Education for the National Association of Medical Record Administration, and numerous offices in the state before she became President. She taught DRG workshops across the state as well as ICD-9 Coding workshops. She worked such long hours that asthma became a dear friend to her. During a JCAHO survey, she was carrying a breathing machine around!
Well, it seemed like honors and accolades were so important back then... but they certainly don't now. The kids and I lived in Arlington, Texas until they went to college; then, I moved to Charlottesville, Virginia in 1992 to become Director of Health Information at the University of Virginia Medical Center. At age 56, I retired; however, I did return to work several times to consult in Juneau, Alaska; Lake Tahoe, California; and in Illinois (on 9/11).
I have travelled to Hawaii, Greece(3X), Ireland, Scotland, England, Germany, Austria, France, Israel, Egypt, Canada, Alaska, Italy, Bahamas, Mexico, and more. As you can see, I love to travel. Tennis and gardening are my other loves.
I now live in College Station, Texas---a venture I undertook when my daughter's husband went to Iraq in 2005. They are now in Houston but I am still here. I found tennis, a master gardening program, and a wonderful church to keep me occupied. I love my church , Christ United Methodist Church, and that is where I spend alot of my time. It has led me to prison ministry: Bridges to Life Prison Ministry, a 14 week project where the men learn the role they played in their crime and how the victims felt. Ask me for more and I will talk on and on. This program is quite rewarding. Also, I ensure that 1200 dozen chocolate chip cookies are baked at my church twice a year. This allows each inmate in the Huntsville prison to receive a dozen cookies during a Kairos weekend of unconditional love. (Bonnie and Clyde stopped by for their dozen!)
My son, Reid and his wife, Mary Beth, blessed me with my first grandchild in June 2010...Mary Addison Kiser. She is adorable! They live in Reston, Virginia. Roganne, my daughter, and her husband, Dirk, do not plan to have children. They have prairie dogs, cats, and horses. They live in Houston, Texas.
So that's enough about me and my fam, see you in September! Redith
