Today's Featured Biography
Margo McMurdie Ward
After we graduated from Granite, I worked at Zion National Park as a waitress, and then attended the University of Utah. While there, I met my husband Jon through his sister who was a good friend of mine. He was in medical school at the U and we got married in March 1961. I worked extra jobs at the Chamber of Commerce and at an advertising agency during that time. Then we had our first daughter, Kim. When she was almost a year old, we moved to Minneapolis for his internship which he chose because he wanted to ride the ambulances. During that time I babysat two other children for the year that we were there. After we went back to Salt Lake, Jon did a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Utah. I had my second daughter, Heidi, during this time. When he became a doctor, he went into the Air Force as a captain and worked in the hospital at Travis Air Force Base for two years during the Vietnam War. At that time, we had our third daughter, Anne. Then we moved back to Salt Lake, and I had two more daughters, Lisa and Johanna. Jon was so happy when we finally had a son, Josh, who is now an anesthesiologist just like his dad.
We have loved going on vacations to Lake Powell, snowmobiling at Yellowstone, and going up to Jon's family farm in Midway, Utah. I also loved working at the temple, as well serving a mini mission downtown at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. After Jon and I had been married 54 years, he became ill and passed away. I really miss having him around. We have six children, 22 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
Memories of Granite: I was one of the taller girls in Pep Club, I wrote for the Deseret News about Granite High, and I was surprised to be asked to speak at graduation. I really miss seeing our school building when I drive by. I was sad when it was torn down. Good memories!
