Robert Benjamin Wiley, Jr., 40, of Erie, departed this life on Thursday April 10, 2008 following a sudden illness at Hamot Medical Center. He was born August 21, 1967 in Erie, a son of Joyce L. Wiley and the late R. Benjamin Wiley. He was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School, where he was point guard for the 1985 State Championship Team. He furthered his education at Mercyhurst College in Erie.
During his early years he played little league baseball. He was also a member of St. James A.M.E. Church. Robbie, as he was lovingly called was a people person and had a love of life and entertaining. He had a smile that would light up a room and melt the hardest of hearts. He was an avid reader. Loved to shoot pool, bowling, roller skating, playing basketball, dancing, and spending time with his family and friends. He also had a great mind to remember and quote statistics in any sport. Robbie never met a stranger.
He was preceded in death by his father R. Benjamin Wiley; his maternal grandmother Jettie B. Knight; his paternal grandmother Clara Wiley; and his uncle Cornelius Wiley. Robbie leaves to cherish his memory, his loving mother Joyce L. Wiley; his stepmother, Elder Barbara Wiley, both of Erie; his nine children, Dionte Marcel Wiley of Fla., Michael Barnes-Wiley, Robert Benjamin, III, Anetia Stewart, Marquise Barnett, Todd Wiley Alyssia Wiley and Isiah Wiley all of Erie, Tahjaue Wiley of N.C.; his two sisters, Vikki Wiley of Erie, Dena Wiley of Fla.; his four brothers, Shelby Wiley, Kalen Wiley, Antonio Wiley, and Yannick Wiley all of Erie; his grandson, Alan Anderson of Erie; his significant other, Tasha Martin of Erie; a special friend, Danielle Keim of Erie, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friends are invited to share with the family on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at St. James A.M.E. Church, 236 E. 11th Street, and attend the funeral services on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church, with Dr. Eugene L. Schoolfield, II officiating. Internment will follow in the Laurel Hill Cemetery.
