Today's Featured Biography
Jennifer Nicolas Crawford
I have been trying to figure out just how to put the 50 years since graduation into some sort of perspective.
I have read all the bio's. Good for all of you. You achieved what you started out to do and did it quite successfully!
I am married to my best friend for 50 years. We are the parents of 3 amazing adults. I am blessed with 9 grandchildren from 25-6. I am also the great grandmother of 3.
I always ask myself, especially now, who would have thought we would have lived so long. Fifty years is a lifetime ago.
I always say that from the neck up most of us haven't changed. Granted there are a few more gray hairs than 50 years ago and the eyes and ears are not as good as they once were. The brain still functions. But all in all we are still upright.
We have had the opportunity to have a front row seat in some of most amazing transformations in the world. If you take the time to reflect to 1966 you realize we were in the so called "Camelot" world.
Guys had short hair, girls wore dresses, if you kissed to much you became pregnant, we were the remote control, someone pumped you .29cents a gallon gasoline, family's ate dinner together, curfews, leave it to beaver and father knows best were our favorite shows, we played marbles, and among other things we didn't question authority. We were drafted, we went to war, period.
Boy, has the world changed. I sometimes think I could still like to live during that time as long as I had my remote, cell phone, microwave, lap top and the knowledge I have acquired over the last 68 years.
I have worked retail for 30 plus years. We now are both retired and probably busier than we ever thought we could be.
I think the whole business for yourself is a pretty great idea, at this stage of my life. When you are the owner, staff, and everything else its a whole different dynatics. You go into the bathroom in the morning and look in the mirror. You tell yourself I quit and realize you are it. So you wash your face and face the day.
I have a pumpkin patch that has been in business for over 20 years. It started small and has blossomed from there. We are now getting the moms and dads coming to the patch that came to it as kids.
We have a small farm and sell eggs to 6 local grocery stores and at our local farmers markets.
I love antiquing and gardening. For the past 7 years I have done an garden at our local county fair.
Because of the wide ranges of ages of the grandkids we have them in three so called stages.
The first stage the 25-18 are going to college or married. My oldest grandson works for a beer company and has blessed us with a cute as a button great granddaughter My grandson goes to Kansas state. One just graduated from high school and the oldest granddaughter is a mom of two amazing toddlers.
The second stage are two 9 year olds and 2 7 year old girls. Both of our girls were pregnant at the same time and the four girls are 6 months apart. These four ladies think that grandma is just another playmate. We do ice skating lessons, soccer, art camp, going to the beach, swim lessons and everything else associated with this age group. We are blessed to have them. Their energy alone is enough to take care of any energy crisis,
The final stage is the great grandkids. They are 4, 1 1/2 and 6 months old. Its kind of nice having babies around. They are just finding out how amazing this world of ours is. It doesn't take much to humor them and their giggles are like confetti falling from the sky.
Ray and I have been married almost 50 years. He is truly my best friend. We are a tad bit slower but still make each other laugh.
So now you have a current bio on me. Somethings in me haven't changed. I am still a supporter of the underdog. I have a huge amount of tenacity, I will always be kind, unfortunately to a fault, I am fiercely independent, I laugh easily. My family will always come first.
take care Jennifer Nicolas Crawford
