Today's Featured Biography
Wayne Gillam
Wow...20 years goes by fast!...or does it? Sometimes it seems like high school wasn't that long ago, other times it seems like it was a lifetime away to me.
After graduation I attended Northwest Nazarene College (now NNU) for a year and studied Music/Piano Performance with the goal of teaching in college someday. I then transferred to Wheaton Music Conservatory outside of Chicago for my sophomore year. Although I enjoyed my music classes and had some great experiences, I realized at the end of my sophomore year that a music career wasn't for me.
I still wanted to do something creative with my life, so I came back to Boise, went to BSU, and graduated with a degree in graphic design.
I freelanced at a few ad agencies in town, than worked at the Idaho Statesman designing newspaper ads for 3 years. I then moved on from that, back to BSU, where I worked designing publications for the university for 5 years.
In the midst of all of this, my friendship with Jay (my partner) grew and deepened into a great love. One of those unexpected but welcome turns in life that takes you places you never thought you'd go. It's been a really interesting journey with ups, downs, and a lot of laughter all along the way.
4 years ago, we moved from Boise up to Seattle for both personal and professional growth. It was a bit scary moving right after 9/11, leaving secure jobs and the familiar, but the move has worked out beautifully.
I'm working now for the City of Redmond (where Microsoft has it's headquarters) designing print and web publications. Jay is working for Gallagher-Reppond, a health-insurance brokerage firm in Bellevue, WA. We live in Seattle in a house we bought a couple years ago with two very fat, lazy, and adorable cats.
So that's a quick summary of the last 20 years of my life for those of you that are interested. I saw a few familiar names in the biography list. I'm looking forward to the reunion and catching up with everyone!
