Dennis Gaub

Went to CCHS through November 1967 (junior year), then my family moved to Billings. I'm a 1969 graduate of Billings West High School, but my ties to CCHS are as strong, or stronger, than to West High.
After getting my journalism degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL (suburban Chicago), I spent about 25 years in the newspaper industry. I was a reporter and editor for daily and weekly newspapers in Colorado, Michigan, Wyoming and Montana. The longest stint was at the Billings Gazette; was there part-time my senior year in high school and full-time, 1975-78, and then again, 1981-1997.
Helped found a free weekly newspaper, the Billings Outpost, in 1997, as a needed alternative to the Gazette for both editorial content and advertising vehicle for smaller, local businesses.
Then I began a still-evolving career change. First, I worked for Wells Fargo's operation center in Billings in internal customer service and on the internal help desk. Did that for 5 years before a former newspaper colleague and fellow Northwestern alum recruited me for RightNow Technologies, a business-to-business software company in Bozeman that has grown from 2 employees in 1995 to 800-plus with worldwide operations today.
I handle knowledge base functions at RightNow, supporting our sales staff in their efforts to land business through the RFP (request for proposal) process.
But I'm keeping my journalism foundation and passion alive with a local news web site and blog. It's called the Belgrade Beacon, at www.belgradebeacon.com
My wife, Carolyn, and I just celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary. She's finished her most recent teaching position, as a K-5 librarian at the Crow Agency elementary school, and is now looking for an education position in the Gallatin Valley.
I worked remotely for RightNow, out of our home in Billings Heights (just a couple miles away from the epicenter of Sunday's tornado), for the first 4 years I was employed by the company. Then, last year, my position essentially moved to our Bozeman headquarters. So, we sold the Billings house and became Belgrade residents.
Looking forward to the reunion, if I can make it. I just drove through Miles City last week and appreciated the fact that, despite the general Eastern Montana doldrums, things are still happening in good 'ole Miles Town!
