Today's Featured Biography
Richard Swartz
To be honest, I do not have very many fond memories from my high school years. The good memories are centered around the friends I had during that time. I drifted about after high school and finally returned to college when I was 21. At that time I found myself, settled down and focused on what I needed to do (something I never did in high school.) I graduated with honors from ENMU, where I served in the student senate for 2 years, and later obtained my MBA at NMSU. I tell my kids that those were some of the best years of my life.
I went to work for El Paso Electric in 1976 and I am currently the Director responsible for new distribution construction. I am responsible for both El Paso and Las Cruces so I make the commute to El Paso about 3 times a week.
I married Lana Taylor from Idaho Falls, Idaho. She passed away in 2006 but left me with one daughter, two sons and 21 years of wonderful memories. All the kids went to NMSU. Wendy is a school teacher here in Las Cruces. She is married to Tony and I have a grandson, Myles. Brandon is a graduate Student in Electrical Engineering and Eric will graduate in Dec. with a degree in Civil Engineering. I couldn't be more proud.
I have tried to give back to the community that has been so good to me. I have served on several boards including a child abuse prevention organization and the Las Cruces Symphony. I am a member of a local search and rescue team and I am currently serving on the board of the New Mexico Search and Rescue Council.
My hobbies are four wheeling, hiking, camping and I just began bicycling.
I want to give a special thanks to all those who are administering this web site. Having done the website for the Mayfield Band for several years, I know how much work it can be.
One last thing; it saddens me to see all the people in the memorial section. Some of them I considered close friends back in my high school years.
Update: In 2014, I retired after 37 years at El Paso Electric. We’ve done a lot of traveling in the RV. I have traveled to all the states except for HI, AK, NC & SC. After graduation, Brandon spent several years in Houston and now working for an engineering consulting firm in Kirkland WA. Eric is working for an engineering consulting firm in Dallas. Wendy is still teaching here in Las Cruces. I’m still doing search and rescue.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
