Today's Featured Biography
Joseph Enzor
After graduating from the University of Maryland in 1969, I entered Maryland's law school in the Fall of that year, but left early in the first year due to unanticipated financial issues.
No longer eligible for an educational deferment, I was subsequently drafted into the Army in April of 1970, trained in advanced infantry & electronics and, at the conclusion of my training, spent nearly all of 1971 at a highly-secure Signal Corps communications relay/switching facility in Phu Lam (a suburb of Saigon in South Vietnam), finishing my service as a Staff Sergeant (Sp6) Non-Commissioned Officer in December of 1971. I was awarded the Bronze Star for my service.
Later, I became a senior executive & shareholder in numerous technology companies, living & working in Northern California (Silicon Valley), North Carolina, Southern California, Massachusetts, Colorado, Idaho and, finally, Colorado again (where I still reside). The organizations I led were responsible for product definition and life-cycle management of an extensive array of digital telecommunications and computing products/systems for Fortune 500 global companies, and I traveled extensively throughout this period in North America, Asia, and Europe, working with various engineering, manufacturing and distribution partners.
After more than two decades of working in the technology industry, in 1999 I decided to revisit what I considered to be the unfinished business of law school, subsequently earning two graduate degrees -- J.D. & LLM-Masters in Tax. I opened my own practice in 2004, just as I was turning 58.
From that point through the end of 2024 I maintained my own private practice, mostly focusing on transactions related to corporate/partnership M&A (mergers & acquisitions), venture funding and intellectual property. My clients were typically startup or pre-IPO technology companies (or their investors). During that period I also developed a significant (mostly pro bono) practice with numerous non-profit clients, and participated as an outside Board Member for several. Additionally, for nearly four years I was the General Counsel and a Board Member of a mid-market IT company, the business of which was mainly focused on civilian/military U.S. government digital network systems/applications/security contracts.
I'm divorced, and my three children are spread out across the landscape: My son Noah (now "Brother Dunstan") is a Catholic Monk (Benedictine Order) and Assistant Professor of Theology at Saint Anselm Abbey & College in Manchester, NH, and has a Ph.D in Religious History from Boston College; My oldest daughter, Laura, has a Ph.D in Biology from the University of South Carolina, and is an Assistant Professor at the University of Hartford, CT. Her research focuses on the effects of global warming on aquatic micro-organisms; My youngest daughter, Julie, is retired from a position managing financial aid & student communication programs for the University of Colorado. I have one grand dog. :)
Although I've now significantly reduced the time I devote to my legal practice (read "pretty much retired" after two decades in private practice), I still occasionally get involved in law-related (pro bono) projects that interest me. Admittedly, however, I've become more than a bit of a slacker, professionally. Living in close proximity to the front range of the Rocky Mountains (just outside of Boulder, Colorado), I'm far more likely to be found somewhere at altitude -- hiking, fly fishing, pursuing various social/cultural interests, or just generally hanging out under the cool, deep-blue Colorado sky.
All the best!
Joe
