Today's Featured Biography
Paul Weiss
Way back when, I graduated from UW Madison in engineering, spending my fourth year in Germany at the University of Stuttgart. This was also the year when the Berlin Wall fell. If you recall nighttime pictures of the Wall on New Years’ Eve with loads of people on it, one of them was me, and I was taking in the moment with a sufficient amount of alcohol. I later returned to Madison to get a Master’s Degree, primarily because I hadn’t received my fill of Madison yet.
I managed to scrape up a job in Dubuque as a Quality Engineer, later working for Abbott Labs near Chicago, then back to Dubuque, Iowa – knowing full well there weren’t any female prospects there. But in fact, I did find my wife there. I “won” Luann in a coin toss, or at least I won the rights to introduce myself. We were married six months later.
Today, we live in the NW suburbs of Minneapolis, which I think is a terrific place to raise a family. So many opportunities. I am absolutely loving the Dad title. I wish we could have eight more kids (as long as someone else paid for them). For six years I was a quality manager with Boston Scientific, responsible for the production of catheters and stents that open clogged arteries. In late 2006 I moved to American Medical Systems again in Quality. It's a longer commute but much more enjoyable work.
Some of my most memorable times with fellow grads include hitting State Street with Dave Seymour on just about every snow day we had, including the 270 degree "Wazoo!" spin on Hwy 12 in the ’68 Delta 88. Also, driving at 4am in the morning from Dubuque to Evanston, Illinois with Bob Rauner to see the Wisconsin-Northwestern game with Trudell, Hutter and others. There’s nothing like being buzzed at 7:30am at a Badger Bash. And snow football with the cross-country crew thoughout our twenties – during our last event we were still getting kicked off the field by Mr. Bruno.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
