Today's Featured Biography
Carol Wolfgang Sibbald
After high school, I enlisted in the Marine Corps. I was in the crew of a C-130 aircraft which flew missions in Vietnam and Laos. We also flew supplies to disaster areas around the world, as well as transported fallen men and women home to their families. I began as a PFC and, through hard work, ended up four years later as a captain. I was a POW and received multiple decorations, including a purple heart and a bronze star. Once a Marine, always a Marine…..Semper Fi!
In 1965 I met my first husband, Alex Sibbald. He was starting a business at a North Fort Myers marina. We married 12/10/65. I helped him raise his children Mary, Alex and Steven, while starting and growing a business that is today known as Scottie’s Canvas & Marine Outfitters, now run by Mary & Steven.
I started my own business in the 70’s, Carol’s Canvas Shop, at Port Comfort Marina. In the 80’s, due to declining health, I was forced to change my lifestyle and career. I went to Edison College for 2 years and then, following my father’s death, my mother & I moved to Indiana. I met my second husband, Frank McKay, & we married on 12/24/84. I went to Franklin College for 2 years and then transferred back to the University of South Florida in Ft. Myers. During this time I worked for a nursing home and helped develop 2 home healthcare agencies in the area. I continued by studies and received a PHD from Columbia University in Psychology. I practiced for a few years before my health further declined. I have survived a brain tumor, stomach tumors and numerous surgeries. I am now living on disability.
I moved back to Indiana to start a new life without much support from my family. I received outside assistance and furthered by spiritual relationships. I was lonely, but God had a plan and one day I met some children at church who have become my “adopted” grandchildren. I discovered that they were both adopted, as I was, and they had recently lost all of their grandparents. I met their parents, and they have become fast friends. They have helped me move to my current apartment and their mom, Nan, has become the light of my life. She is like a daughter to me. For the past 6 years she has helped me with transportation, care giving, finances and companionship.
Today I am content with my life and feel that it has been rich. I should have died many times over, but I am still here so I guess God is not done with me yet. I never fail to find a blessing around the corner and I know that God has great things in store for me. I look forward to seeing you all at the reunion!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
