Today's Featured Biography

Zane Olesen

Upon embarking from High School with my diploma firmly in hand, then promptly disposing of it in the nearest receptacle, where I also tossed caution and sound judgment-which I was short on anyway-in for good measure. I then proceeded to pursue a career in rock-and-roll with the reckless abandon of a fool hardy adventurer.
During the pursuit of that childhood dream I met my wife, who could only endure 11 years of me being on the road and coming home occasionally to sleep and sober up. Yeah I was, and still am, a boat load of trouble. Had several unique adventures; got to meet Steven Speilberg in 89 in Moses Lake WA, while filming "Always" with Richard Dreyfus, our band was playing a club where the movie crew was hanging out and we got invited to the set to hangout witht the crew. When we were in Alaska, the first time, we found a human skull in the band house we were staying in. Turns out the club owner was a "Drug Lord" and a murderer. We barely got out of there alive on that one. We had to get the police involved. Back in 84 the band I was in had to commandeer a U-Haul across several states, after blowing up the engine on our bus; that turned into quite an experience that few would believe. The music industry gradually took a turn from stuff like, "I want to hold your hand" to "Do the Hustle" to "Jump" then into "I wanna bust a cap in your a$$", and so the touring money began to dry up and I had to try my hand at a day gig. Got into retail security with Sears chasing shoplifters and bad check writers, actually excelled setting a regional record for apprehensions. Then I cut my hair off and donned a gun and badge for awhile, eventually became a Sergeant at Kitsap Mall over 12 armed officers and 3 dispatchers-I know scary huh?-me in charge of people with guns after being a long haired rock musician-Then I got a call to do several tours of Alaska, where the money was big and people still liked "classic rock". Had quite a few Alaska experiences, chased, and nearly killed by a moose, ate a whale-not the whole whale I had to share-, seal, musk oxen, caught 64 salmon in one day, partied with Olympic Gold Medalist Tommy Moe. Then I met a girl who wanted me to settle down and quit rock-and-roll, so I became a bouncer at a bar, next to Exxon Pipeline Terminal, called the Acres-The movie on "Deadly Ground" with Steven Seagal opening fight scene was filmed there-where I almost got killed on several unglamorous occasions. Always seemed odd to me how those oil workers could get so cranky on payday. Then got hired in Salt Lake City to be a movie critic for an online entertainment magazine called "" which was fun to see free movies, but after a year financial woes after the site got hacked several times, forced me to get a security gig for the State of Utah, where I worked armed security during the 2002 Winter Olympics, and also played in a country-rock band for awhile. Eventuallly returned to B-Town where I went to work for Macy*s and became the Senior Officer in the NW region, making both Officer of the NW Region and Employee for the quarter at the same time. Played in two local band for a while "Joey Dean & Fido" and my band called 'Z-Rexx & the Ninjas". Then I got a call from an ex band-mate, who I toured AK,UT,CO, MI, OR, etc, etc, who had started a company called "Sensory Sweep Studios"-in Salt Lake City-which is the largest independent designer of video games in the US, second largest in the world. He hired me to install a security infrastucture, write music, and be the "Offical voice for Sensory Sweep Studio", and so I'm actually getting paid more then rooms and meals for once. Haven't been beat up in awhile either Yay! For now I'm stationary until that next call to hit the road rings..........Have guitar will travel.

We're all in our fifties? Weird hard to believe seemed like yesterday when I was sleeping in Mr. Comer's social studies class.
