Today's Featured Biography
Roberta Souders Lerew
Roberta Ann (Souders) Lerew, known throughout her life as "Bertie," died 1:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2008, at home following a losing bout with cancer.
She was born November 9, 1937, to the late Daniel and Betty Souders. She lived all of her teen and adult life in Chambersburg and was preceded in death by a brother, William (Bill) Souders.
Bertie graduated with the C.H.S. Class of 1955, where she served as Class Secretary and was a majorette in the C.H.S. Band. Since then, she has been instrumental in organizing all reunions of that class. Upon graduation, she became Secretary to the Dean of Penn Hall Junior College and then Secretary of the Franklin Unit of the American Cancer Society for twenty years, retiring 1999.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Chambersburg where she served as usher, nursery assistant, and confirmation mentor. In her spare time she enjoyed participating in aerobics and line dancing. She loved people and enjoyed playing cards, going to lunch and dinner with friends, and music, particularly band music.
She leaves behind Lynn, her husband of 42 years, son Rick, daughter Lori Beaver and husband Mark, and two grandsons, Daniel and Benjamin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested for Trinity Lutheran Church, 26 Commerce St., Chambersburg PA 17201.
